Travel Insurance?

I'm planning a big trip for the fall, and I'm thinking we should get travel insurance -- right?  Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for companies to go through?  I'm not really sure what type of coverage we need or what features to look for specifically.  I can post this over on the travel board as well, but figured I'd put it here in the interest of having more than one post today, lol.  :o)

Re: Travel Insurance?

  • I would. We did for our honeymoon because it was during hurricane season, but I would do it regardless. I'm no help on a who to go through though, our travel agent set it up.
  • My parents swear by Travel Guard, I guess they cover everything down to you breaking your camera.  I never get it either, but I will for our November cruise just in case something happens and I get stuck on bed rest!

  • We got it when we attempted to go on our honeymoon and thank god we did!  Hurricane Wilma forced an evacuation on our resort so we couldn't go.  We got all our money back besides the cost of the insurance which was like $130.  I don't know who it was through, it was just an option to add when we booked online.

Is the best site that shows a good comparison between the different companies and their plans.  I have used Access America and had no issues.  The features to look for are pre-existing conditions, and what is covered under an interruption, delay or cancellation.

  • I think some credit cards offer some sort of travel insurance protection when you book the trip with it.  I've never looked into the details compared to actual travel insurance, but that could be an option.
