Ouch!

I just got back from the gym and I am so sore!  I swam for an hour, which is something that I enjoy.  I was on swim team from age 5 through high school and I've coached swim team now for 7 years.  I hardly ever swim anymore, which is silly since I'm good at it and I like it.

So, I made it my goal that by summer next year, I want to join the masters swim team in town (basically a swim team for older people).  I went and bought a new suit, cap, and goggles today, which were well over-due as I haven't bought new goggles since I was 16 (but they are my favorites and I just couldn't let go).  Then, I went and swam for an hour.  I got in about 2 miles, which is okay, especially since I haven't been in the water for a work-out (just to coach) in a long time.  But man, am I ever sore!  I told DH that you know you're out of shape when something that used to be so incredibly easy becomes difficult.

Anybody else trying to get into (or back into) shape?

Re: Ouch!

  • I've been running on and off all summer. Its something that me and DH enjoy doing together but because of our schedules we have to go right after dinner around 5:30 (before he leaves for work at 7pm) and beacause of the timing it sucks, right in the heat of the day with a full tummy. I'm done with summer term this week (YAY!) so I'm really going to consentrate on working out more regularly.

I've gone swimming (laps) a few times this summer. I really enjoyed, it although I'm  embarassingly bad and uncoordinated. It is something that I would like to work on improving and have in my workout routine with running and lifting weights.

  • I get to the gym about four times a week. Nothing fancy. Although DH has been expressing some concerns about his weight, so we're looking into at-home programs we can do together. No running, though.
  • I joined ww a couple of months ago and have lost 15 pounds.  I have been walked 2-3 miles/ 5-6 days a week.  I have also started to bike.  I can't bring myself to run though, but who knows.

  • I joined WW last month and started on July 5th...I was down 9.2 lbs, but then a long weekend at camp and a lot of 'not working out' has cause a little gain this past week...trying to do my best to get back on track this week, but I know that our anniversary trip is going to cause some weight-loss damage for sure! lol

The biggest thing for me is getting into a routine with walking/doing exercise videos.  Once I am in a good routine, I am fine, but it's tough getting there...I just keep reminding myself that this weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint "one day at a time!"

  • Oh man, I feel bad. I signed up for a really cheap gym in January and went maybe four times. This weekend I ran for 25 minutes and it went OK, but now I am in pain and don't want to go back.  I used to swim, but my hair started falling out, and thought that was because of all the chlorine. Basically I have a lot of excuses and I wish I didn't.

You go girl with your swimming!!

  • I'm going to start going to Zumba again after the craziness of my summer course is over with! I can't wait because I really enjoyed myself. To me its more of a dance party than a workout :)

  • I have been a lazy azz...let's just be honest.  My body isn't nearly as tone as it needs to be/should be.

That's what I get for teaching all summer instead of taking class myself!!!

I'm starting bar method this week... http://www.barmethod.com/bar-method-exercises.html  in case you need info on what it is :-)

I needed to shake up my regular dance classes with something else...and I fully expect it to kick. my. sad. butt. back into my toner, happier self!

And GOOD FOR YOU for getting yourself back in the pool!  I've always envied swimmers' bodies!
