Teachers, when do you head back?

We have development days Thursday and Friday of this week, and then students come on Monday the 15th. The summer flew by!

Re: Teachers, when do you head back?

  • Our professional days are today through Thursday, then our kids start back this Friday the 12th. I'm going to school through Thursday--then, thanks to the sick days I've accrued, I'm staying home with G until October Big Smile.
  • New teachers come tomorrow, I think. I go back for meetings on the 11th, 12th, and 16th. Schedule pick up day (required to work) is the 15th. Kids come for class the 17th.

I've been going up since last week to get things in order. It takes awhile to prep for 5-6 classes.

Aww, that's so great you can do that! Enjoy your time at home

I can imagine. I only have two preps, thankfully. Hope it's a good year for you! I spent some time up at school rearranging my classroom Saturday (well, directing DH) and will go up for a bit on Wednesday, too, before all our faculty converge on the copy machine!

Thanks! I think it will be a good year. I've got good classes, and a lot of students in beginning journalism so maybe I can convince some of them to come over to the dark side...the media lol.

Thanks! October seems so far away now but I'm sure it'll fly by. As a side note--it's funny how many people assume that teachers get some awesome maternity leave benefits. Yeah, not hardly. When I explain that I've built up 9 weeks of sick leave and am using 8 of them to stay home with G they always look so puzzled and ask "what about your maternity leave?". I realize a lot of times women aren't given maternity leave and I'm grateful I get to stay home for any amount of time, I just think it's funny people assume teachers get extra maternity benefits. We'll have to time our next pregnancy just right so that I can build up some more sick leave. My coworker is due in December and only has 16 days accrued--that would suck.

I'm like your coworker. I have less than three weeks sick leave accrued, due to various illnesses and surgeries I had while working in my district. Oh well! We knew I wouldn't have a "paid" leave anytime in the next few years because I always end up having to use sick leave. I'm just thrilled that I'll have summer with this baby.

I agree, lots of people think teachers must get amazing maternity benefits. Simply not true!
