If I'm irrationally stabby...
it's because I haven't eaten yet today (it's 13:55 here). I am one of those people who are no fun at all to be around when they're hungry. I missed breakfast because of a two hour Skype date with my family. Shortly thereafter, the satellite installation guy showed up with very little warning (I didn't even know he was supposed to be here today). Now there is some sort of problem so who knows how long he'll be here, and I don't know if he's muslim so I don't want to eat in front of him in case he is. Boo.
Re: If I'm irrationally stabby...
why? (I'm not familiar
)
Can you sneak some food into the bathroom?
All's good with me. I can understand being stabby from not having eaten stupid aside: because I have very little experience with Ramadan -- is there a provision in place for people who need to eat to keep blood sugar level or for other medical reasons?) And I am bit on edge dealing with the electric company trying to get a bill.
Hope you get something to eat soon. I have some homemade creamy roasted tomato soup and beer bread I'm willing to share.

Oh wow, that does not sound like fun. One of the super-muslim Malaysian states tried to order all entertainment establishments shut for all of Ramadan but one of the federal courts overturned the order saying that it was unconstitutional because it was patently unfair to non-muslims. Here it just results in slimmed down staffing at restaurants for lunch and an earlier rush hour.
Yes, there are provisions in place for those who have medical conditions and/or are pregnant, small children, etc. You don't have to participate in the fasting, you just have to "make up" for it in other ways.
Wedding stuff.
Now jumping domestically.
Well that was a crazy couple of years.
Oh Publius, you are so culturally sensitive. I'd eat in front of him. I did it in Syria in 2008 during Ramadan. I tried not to be too obvious about it, but whatever. And in Turkey, they don't really mind if you do - at least I had people urging me to eat and buying me tea and stuff even though they couldn't eat.
Honestly, I feel like it's a better test of your faith or whatever if you have temptation and still fast. It's easier in places like Dubai where they remove all temptations. People have to eat behind curtains, MTV and other music video channels are turned off even at the gym, no live bands, no brunches, no drinking water in a car (that's considered public)... everyone is forced to comply publicly. It's their country and they can do what they want, but I think it says a lot more of a country that doesn't force it upon everyone and people still fast.
But this is my favorite thing about Turkmenistan - it's the least Muslim Muslim country EVER! The USSR's atheism rubbed off on them in a good way. Some people fast but absolutely nothing changes for Ramadan.
Yummmm quesadilla's! I hope that you enjoyed every scrumptious bite.
I can understand your hunger-induced b*tchiness because I am exactly the same way. I just need my food-plain and simple.
I'm not that culturally sensitive. I have no problems eating lunch in a restaurant or drinking during daylight on at outdoor patio. It just seems a bit more awkward in a one-on-one situation, kwim?
Cecilia arrived 12 October 2012
Wedding stuff.
I like to preventively eat, I'm horrific if I get hungry. I swear all travel-related meltdowns revolve around food.
... and now I want a quesadilla. And it's 9am here.

Interestingly enough, you also don't have to fast if you're on your period.
