Best ebook selection?

I just discovered the whole reciprocal library card deal with area counties. What county do you think offers the best selection of ebooks? I use Loudoun's now but once I head back to school it will be easy for me to sign up for both Arlington and Fairfax county cards. Do they have good selections? Thanks ladies! I know we have lots of ebook lovers on here!

Re: Best ebook selection?

  • I live in MD, but I know I can view the e-books my county library has by just browsing the libraries webpage.  Just a thought in case no one knows the answer.  Plus everyone's taste in reading differs.
  • I'm wondering if all libraries that use Overdrive have the same selections.  Arlington seems to have the same selection that Alexandria does.  I don't know if they are good selections, though!  I've had good luck finding new things to read, and some luck with specific authors or books.

How does the reciprocal thing work?

  • My understanding of it, MD has it too though I haven't used it yet, is that you basically have a library card for the state and can borrow from any library.
  • I found this on the Arlington County Library page:

You can get a free library card if you live, work, or attend school in Arlington.  You are also eligible if you live in one of the participating reciprocal jurisdictions. Arlington residents may apply for library cards in any of these jurisdictions, and residents there may apply for an Arlington Public Library card.

Reciprocal Jurisdictions:The District of ColumbiaVirginia: City of Alexandria, City of Falls Church, Fairfax County, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, Prince William CountyMaryland: Frederick County, Montgomery County, and Prince George County

So, basically, if you already have an area library card you are eligible for any other area county practically.   I filled out their (Arlington) online registration last night and got my approval by email this morning.  I got into the ebook list immediately.  I have an iPad so I use the overdrive app.  Best thing ever.

Loudoun's list had 750-ish ebook listing, Arlington's was almost 2500.  So, yeah, more titles for sure.  I did notice when browsing that they seemed to be fewer copies of each book, and many more people on the waiting list for the popular books, so that's something to take into consideration.  They had a lot more children's titles which is neat too, being an elementary ed teacher, that's definitely handy.  I'll probably work my way through some other counties as well just to see what their offerings are like.
