Moms with kids in daycare...

Who has their kids in daycare? And what are you paying? Ft/ pt? I have called a few places and most won't give me a quote without coming for a tour- a tour from 8am -6pm mon- fri when neither my hubs and i around. I got once place to give me a quote of 5 days full time $1810.00 a month I don't know what's outrageous price wise or reasonable. and I would prefer it to be on my route to work or my husbands since day care price/ location will determine what shift each of us works (so north rockland is out) Also If you have any you would recommend or avoid that would be helpful as well.

Re: Moms with kids in daycare...

  • Every where I have called gave me pricing. Call again and ask for the price if they say they will not give it to you. Let them know that you do not want to see somewhere completely out of your budget. (don't give them your budget) What hours is that for? I think I am seeing around 350 a week to get care from 6:30 - 6 ish. on average.  You should also find out if it includes anything (some places do include things) one in Stamford includes formula and diapers of course you have to use what they give. However I'm in Dutchess so 1800 doesn't sound bad.

  • Also know... infants are more expensive than toddlers... toddlers unpotty trained are more expensive than potty trained ones, etc...

Our daycare is $120/wk per kid = $240/wk. snacks 2x a day included plus milk @ lunch... however... we don't pay extended hour fee... they're there for 5 hours, or 9 and its the same rate.

  • This website was very helpful to me as I was specifically looking for an in-home daycare. It lets you search for all providers or specifically centers for in-home and gives you the number of children they have etc. Just plug in your zip code and start dialing :)

  • i think our infant rate is about $1200, 5 days a week, 40 hours a week (we do 9-5 as it's walking distance to dh's office so he can drop and get to work right around 9 and pick up minutes after 5).

they have cheerios on hand for when the infants are old enough to snack on it. i provide formula, diapers, lotions, wipes, food - everything.

rates drop at age 2.5. starting at age 1 in the first room after the infant room, they provide milk and breakfast items like kix if kids are there early. we always sent in milk because we chose to give Ava organic and they did not provide that.

there's a sibling discount on the older, already cheaper child. there are also corporate discounts. i would ask if there are discounts for law enforcement/gov't employees when you call.

  •  I have a friend in Pearl River right off the palisades that has a licensed home daycare. Let me know if you want her info. She said like $225-250 a week, depending on the age of the baby for full time.
  • I'm in Orange County, but we use a in-home daycare and we pay $200 a week and we provide everything.

  • We just looked into one in Monroe for A. They wanted $1110 per week for 3 days 830-530. He's almost 2. Ditto pp, they should give you a price over the phone. Idk if you have anyone, but we used a family friend the first year (our friends gma) and gave her a few bucks each week. Just a thought!

  • After I posted this I got one more place to give me a quote over the phone around$1200 a month for ft. My mil offered but it's just not convenient to go north to drop off/ puck up and then to head to the city plus she is already watching my NEICE who is one. I think two infants might be too much. I might just save her for when we are in a jam.

  • we love our center but it's in north rockland. It's $60 per day for part time and it was about the same as other centers in the area when we checked. They provide 2 snacks and a hot lunch.
