Las Vegas

Since it's slow....

H and I are going to Vegas.  I've never been so I wanted to ask you all for tips on what to do and where to eat.  We plan to rent a car and drive out to Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon one day.  Other than that we don't have anything definite planned.  For those that have been do you have any recs?  Thanks!

Re: Las Vegas

  • I've only been once and it was a very quick trip, but I loved the giant arcade. I'm not a gambler, but the arcade thing was so much fun. I can't remember exactly what building it's in...helpful, right?

I also loved the NY roller coaster, but the space needle thing was just meh. I could have skipped that.

If I went back I'd definitely get tickets to the Cirque de Soleil "O".

Oh, and the Bellagio watershow is as cool as it looks on tv. It lures you in and you can't look away. Very pretty.

  • ohhh my sister lives in Vegas and my mom used to, so i have been approx. 475 times :) first, where are you planning on staying? any ideas? i can give suggestions if you need.

    are you gamblers?

the shopping is fantastic...lots of upscale but normal stuff mixed in too. i can tell you where the outlet is also (up off the strip, but if you're renting a car, super easy to get to).

I would recommend a show or event seeing if there are any concerts of interest at any of the casinos during the time you're there. i've never been to a show (crazy i know) but i've heard they're incredible.

so...i need to know your details before i can give you an accurate travel plan :)

  • We are staying on the strip... on the south end.  I'm drawing a blank on the hotel name because we seriously looked at every hotel to get the best deal.  We will be there for 3 1/2 days.

We will gamble a little, but I don't plan on spending more than a few hours in the casinos.  My H would love to, but the frugal part of me just can't take it.  ;)

I'm really excited there is an H&M there because I plan to go.  The closest one to us is 4 hours away so I love to go anytime there is one close.  I'm sure some people might think its sad that I'm so excited about that, but I love that store.

I really want to see a show.  I haven't bought anything yet, but I hope to get some discount tickets from tix4tonight while we're there.  I regret not seeing anything on Broadway when we went to NYC so I want to see something!  I'd really love to see one of the Cirque shows.

Oh... and we plan to go to Fremont St. because a few people have told us to check it out.

  • i would spend your days shopping (it is hot and there really isnt much in the way of "outdoor activities" in vegas..other than walking to and from the casinos) and checking out some of the casinos. take comfortbale shoes...it is A LOT of walking. you'll want to for sure check out the Bellagio...inside the lobby is a really neat area that is completely decorated for the season with flowers and plants. super neat.

i would spend the nights gambling, seeing shows, seeing the fountains at the Bellagio, and Fremont street one night.

a word of caution...the food in vegas is pricy. i'm not a big buffet person so I can't give too many recommendations there, but i do like the Cafe at the Bellagio (right in the area where the above mentioned flower display is). every casino has a 24-hour restaurant, and this is the Bellagio's version but the food is good and not over-priced. i'd try to stay away from overly touristy places (Serendipity in front of Casers Palace..home to the most expesnive lunch i've ever eaten). if you want a nice dinner, Mon Amie Gabie at Paris is GREAT (french style steakhouse). for steak, it's not crazy pricey.

i enjoy going to Margaritiaville...right on the strip. i dont know why...probly bc i'm too old for clubs but i enjoy a drink or two :) and you can sit and people watch.

is there anything specific that i'm leaving out that you were curious about? a lot of the casinos are very fun to just walk around and see all of the different things inside...that takes up lots of time.

There's nothing sad about this to me. You are speaking my language.

Karebear... I get so aggravated when they run H&M commercials in Nashville.  Ummm... there's not one anywhere close to here!  Teases!

Bucks... I think that helps with all of my questions.

Thanks so much for the help ladies!
