Please help me be diplomatic...
It's three days before the wedding. I just sent hotel-to-venue directions to three of my friends who will be traveling together. I get an e-mail response: "We won't have a car, is there anyone we can carpool with?"
Am I overreacting by getting pissed off? Dude, it's two days before the rehearsal, the wedding is in middle-of-nowhere NH and the nearest hotel (where they're staying) is 1/2 hour away. I feel bad, but I don't think there's anybody staying at their hotel that would have room.
I replied that I'd get back to them tomorrow because I needed to check who was staying there.
What would you do?
Re: Please help me be diplomatic...
I didn't realize your wedding was so close! Are you in the US right now?
As for the car situation, that's pretty crappy of them to put on you three days before the wedding. How many people are staying at this hotel? Would it be feasible to make a few calls and ask anyway? Then you could always phrase your response with, "I called everyone but unfortunately no one has any available seats in their car" or "I called around but was only able to find 1 seat", or something like that, which puts everything back on them.
I am
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the man and his family. They took off 40 minutes ago, not that I'm tracking their flight or anything! We're headed to the airport today and tomorrow to pick up two different car loads of Spaniards, so it's a tough time to be calling folks.
First off YAY wedding!!
Second I agree wit Publius put it back on them, you can't do this BS so late in the game. Your wedding is not in Boston or NYC.
My friend pulled this BS when she asked what we were doing with kids when she knew I was dealing with my mom freaking out. Her kid's name was not on the invite so he was not invited.

Send them a link to a rental car at the airport...
GL, tough spot to be in and three days before your wedding!
I will agree with this. Some people tried to ask me the same types of things and if they had asked earlier I could've helped more, but as it was I just had to say I couldn't get in touch with the other people for them and they'd have to figure it out by calling them themselves or finding another way.
So exciting that the wedding is already here!
Since you already replied that you need to check with who was staying there, you should respond:
Hey,
I've been so busy with the last minute wedding details and future in-laws coming in from another country, that I wasn't able to get in touch with anyone today. To be honest, I don't know what tomorrow will look like either. From what I can recall, most people who are likely staying at the same hotel won't have any additional space in their car, especially for three people. Maybe you can rent a car or see if a taxi can come out?
Maybe you can call (mutual friends that haven't talked to you about their transportation issues) and see if they have space? Or maybe rent a car?
See you on Saturday!
Now jumping domestically.
Well that was a crazy couple of years.
Out of all thing things you are already dealing with, their lack of planning should not be one of them. Send turtle's e-mail and let them figure it out. They are adults afterall.
You guys are great. Thank you so much, especially for that very well worded e-mail!
We're off to Boston in a few, so I'll send that off tonight. I've been brainstorming who they could ride with, and it sure seems like they're SOL.
Sad thing is they could've had a weekend long rental for like $50 if they had done this earlier. It'll be around $300 now.
