food allergies? (XP)

so i just found out that DD has a milk allergy and I have to cut out all dairy and soy for two months if i want to keep breastfeeding.  As cheese and ice cream are basically food groups as far as I'm concerned, this is not going to be fun.

Anyone have any experience with either or both of these food allergies?  Milk and soy seem to be in so many products, and I'd love to know some shortcuts.  TIA!

  • Eek, that stinks! I recently did a no-dairy "diet." I'm trying to eliminate certain food types for brief periods of time to see if it helps with some of my ailments. No dairy was difficult but slightly easier than low-carb!

Anywho, we started using Almond Milk instead of milk/soy milk in our house. I think it's good. Maybe that would work for you? I think you can also buy ice cream made with that or coconut milk. If possible, I would start shopping at Whole Foods or at least go poke around in there b/c they have a good selection of food substitutes for people that can't do dairy.

  • thanks!  almond milk is a great idea - then i at least won't have to give up cereal.

low-carb would be rough - good for you for trying it!

Almond milk is awesome! And you'd be amazed at the different types of ice cream available out there - it's not cheap but there is a huge variety.

I agree. Ask for help there too - a lot of the associates can point you toward the items you need!
