Has anyone been to Disneyland lately? We're contemplating heading over during our annual San Diego trip. We actually wanted to wait and do a Disney Cruise but we have a few days to ourselves when we're there so... why not?
Any tips/tricks? It's been years since I was there. Not a huge disney fan. lol!

Re: Disneyland?
Just in general... Like can I pack a lunch and bring it in? Things to see/do. Things to avoid.
I haven't checked out the website just yet.
I'm pretty sure the official rule is no outside food....but I know people do. I have had my bags checked in the past, but haven't ever had anything confiscated. If you want to see characters...go early and they're usually all towards the main entrance of the park. If you wait til later in the day you can wait in line forever, plus you see them less and less around the park if it's hot.
Star Tours is redesigned and there's a new Little Mermaid attraction in Disney California Adventure so I would probably try to fast pass those since they'll be long waits. I have bought tickets from ebay that seemed shady at first but worked out really well and are a fraction of the price. I would shoot to go in the middle of the week too as it can help with over crowding. If you're buying stuff..the shops on the disney walk right between the two parks is often less crowded than the gift shop on main street, and it has all the same stuff, sometimes more. Most the kiddie rides are around dumbo...toon town and it's a small world. Otherwise they're for a bit older. California Adventure has some cute shows, but there are a lot more thrill rides there. They usually have one big broadway-esque show that I am always impressed with. Hth.
My biggest tip-find the Disney photographer as soon as you get in and get a photopass card. You give them your card and they take your pic and load it to the web. They are professional looking, near the big Disney monuments and you can add borders and crop them on their site. And all of you are in the picture! You can register in advance too so I was able to see my pics on my phone each night.
We just went in June. We had a 3 day park hopper pass and it was plenty for us with little kids. California Adventure Park has a 30 minute show with all the characters from the Disney Junior cartoons. They also have A Bug's Life section with little kiddie rides. The girls loved both.
Disneyland is fun first thing in the morning before a ton of people get there. We saw a lot of characters on Main Street right after you get in. If you have limited time, I would go to Toon Town and see Minnie and Mickey's house and meet them there. I don't think your girls like the princesses, but the royal walk is right before Toon Town and you get to meet 4 princesses on the walk. You walk all the way through the park to get there so you can get an idea of what else they have. Fantasyland has some cute kiddie rides like a boat ride, a train ride and a carousel.
The lines are crazy and we had a hard time keeping Carly with us. She just wanted to run. But they usually post the wait time so you can decide if it's worth it. We were in line at least 30 minutes at each attraction after about 11 am.
Other favorite rides were Autopia, It's a Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean. And the carousel-the girls still talk about the carousels. Betsy wasn't quite tall enough to ride some of the rides, but she was able to get on a lot of them. We didn't ride any adult rides like Star Tours, The Matterhorn or Space Mountain. Those lines were super long and Betsy didn't meet the height requirements.
I read in my travel book that you can bring food in and that the bag checkers usually look the other way if it's not a ton of food in your bag. The book we used was The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland
