Walmart, 7-11, Grocery Store, BJ's...is there a place you've found cheaper then most places
Re: where do you buy ice
Yeah this exactly. Wherever is close and convenient - usually the grocery store or 7-11.
Maybe I should edit the title to say "where do you buy ice when you need alot of it".
so just not a bag, other wise I would agree
We're having a cookout, and between the bottled water, juice drinks, soda, keg of beer, and all the bottled beer, we need 200 lbs of ice, about 20 bags, so the more money we can save on each bag, the less this total bill is
okay but I think our answers still stand....I don't price out ice, I just pick up what I need, and sometimes it is a lot like you are describing. I go for convenience and closeness to my house (so it doesnt melt.) You could always call around but I think the grocery store will be your best bet, probably cheaper than a CVS or 711.
I actually used to work for people that had an ice business... The price does actually vary pretty widely. Places like Walmart and BJ's actually sell their ice cheaper than it costs them to buy it. (This is called a loss leader.) It used to really upset my boss that they sold it cheaper than they bought it from him... but he was old school and didn't like the fact that they were "giving it away." Ice will usually be most expensive at the liquor store.
If you need a lot of ice for a hot day whay you need to do is order a couple of 8 lb BLOCKS of Ice. They are only a little more expensive but last 10x longer than the crushed ice. All the ice distributers sell the blocks, but a lot of the grocery stores don't always have them in stock. Call ahead and ask if they can order you a couple blocks and how much they will be.
We have a big oval shaped metal tub that we put drinks in. I line the bottom with the blocks of ice and then put the drinks in. Once the drinks are in I pour crushed Ice over the drinks. Then lay a tarp over the top. This method has kept drinks cold all day even in the summer.
