anyone know of a paper co that will let you totally customize a card?

i posted about this over on D&R and the bump 2nd trimester, so i'm sorry if you've read this post before!

my husband and i are buying our first home and expecting our first baby. moving in October, due date in Feb/March. that means i need to let people know about the new address before Christmas (so cards and baby gifts go to the right place- most of our friends and family are out of state).

so, we thought about combining a "we moved" announcement with a "we're expecting" announcement.

BUT, i'm having a tough time finding a online place (ie: shutterfly, etc) that will let me customize enough to put both announcements on one photo card thing. make sense?

has anyone done something like this before?  if so, through who? if there's an etsy seller you've used, would you PM me the link?

also, i've gotten some mixed feedback about whether its smart to send a pre-birth baby announcement, but i honestly don't understand how this is any different than posting about it on faccebook or a blog (way more press that way than with my paper cards going out to close friends and fam). so if you have thoughts about that, i'd be interested in those too.

thanks so much for your input and help! (and i promise i won't post this on any other boards).  ;o)

  • I've used Vistaprint.com for making/printing cards.  If I don't like a style or layout of a card option they have I make my own in Word (or if you have a program like Publisher or Adobe Editor) and then just upload the document and order it.

  • thanks blossom_0826! i think vistaprint looks like my best bet so far! :o)
  • I've used Mixbook and you can upload your own designs, plus they almost always have a groupon floating around.

  • You could also try etsy.com.  A lot of the sellers will personalize for you.
  • Ditto etsy.

And I'll say it - it seems a bit gift grabby to me. "Here's our new address and oh yeah! Baby on the way so presents go here". If they aren't close enough to you to know you're expecting, I'm not sure why they would be notified of an address change, IMO.

  • vista print. or just send it to a local print shop.

I think it's weird to mail out pre-birth announcements. I think it is waaaay different to announce on fb as opposed to mailing cards to everyone and their mothers. Mail is more official and special, save the postage for the announcement of your son/daughter, not your pregnancy.

Obviously it's your choice what you do, but if you decide you agree with this, maybe you could make a moving announcement that mentions that you're moving to a new place just in time to welcome your new addition. Just a thought. ;)
