rec your convertible carseat

We aren't switching yet but I would like to start watching out for a good deal on one. So rec your carseat! We had looked at the Graco Nautilus, looks like it goes into a booster for later too. Is that good/bad??

Re: rec your convertible carseat

  • The Nautilus is a good seat for sure.  We have the Safety First Air Protect seats.  I love the cushion of air around their heads for side collision accidents.  Plus it's super easy to install both forward and rear facing.  We will use those seats for a long time, they go to 65 lbs.
  • My Ride 65. We have two. I love it.

  • I might be mistaken but I think the Nautilus is FF only.

We have 2 Graco MyRide 65's and love them.  E is very comfortable riding.  They installed really easy in my car and DH's truck.  My only complaint is that he seems to be really reclined FF.  He doesn't appear bothered by it but I've noticed it lately.  I need to check if we can alter that.

  • We have 2 Boulevards and a Marathon. I love my Britax seats! They are so easy to install with the latch system that they have (not hooks, more like a seat belt latch).

The Graco Nautilus is a convertible seat but not in the sense you are thinking. It DOES NOT rear face. It's "convertible" because you can use it with a 5 pt harness, then as a high back booster, then finally as a regular booster. With the new recommendation of rear facing til age 2, you would need a different seat in the meantime.

  • Check out www.carseatblog.com.

The Nautilus is a great seat, but it isn't going to work for you right now. How much are you looking to spend?

My top recommendations would be First Years True Fit (love this seat!), Britax Boulevard, Marathon, Roundabout 55, Evenflo Triumph and then Graco My Ride.

I love my Britax seats, but I got really good deals on all of them. If I hadn't, then I would have gone with the True Fit hands down. It is easy to install, and has one of the highest shells on the market.

  • We have the Evenflo Triumph and love it.  It's a big seat, but I LOVE that I don't have to take the seat apart just to adjust the should straps!
