What to Drink @ Chili Party

We don't usually provide liquor at the parties, b/c we provide all the food and non-alcoholic beverages and mixers.  At some point, I have to have a budget.

But the budget has some room now, b/c of my friends not visiting.  We're already having some stout beer that DH and I love.  What woudl you want to drink at a chili party?  I can't think of any good cocktails to go with it, so should I just buy some nice beer and let it go?  Other suggestions?

One fairly spicy beef chili, one chicken chili that I think will be mild, and maybe a toned down beef (I don't think our vegan friends are coming).

Re: What to Drink @ Chili Party

  • I vote beer and soda.  To me, chili should not be mixed with booze.

  • Beer is the only alcoholic drink I think goes with chili.
  • Some nice beer is perfect. Most people will probably have 1 beer and then switch to water or soda while eating chili.

  • coronas with lime

  • I agree. ?Beer is the only alcoholic beverage I can imagine with chili.
  • Some Peroni (beer)

Oh, and sidenote? For some reason, I always want ice cold milk with chili. I don't know if this is normal or not, but it's something to keep in mind for guests.

  • beer and sode would be great for me.

i'd also like to say a nice red wine, but i know you're particular about your wines, so it may bust the budget.

  • I don't drink beer, so wine would probably be my drink of choice.

  • I actually second the milk, but that's because I have it with every meal and especially spicy ones.

    Beer should be fine.

  • I actually considered the milk, but beer + milk = diaster for some people.  So, I don't want to provide both.  We will have sour cream and cheese for on top of the chili and cornbread with butter, so that should be enough to tone down the spice.

I considered a red wine, Wz, but it'd have to be a fairly strong one to balance and I'm not sure most people would like it.

So, a good beer.  I think we're just going to get something lighter with a nice hops.  Maybe a Dos Equis.

    Thanks ladies.
