Resume and Cover letter help!

I'm applying for a job as a staff research assistant at a local children's hospital. I have the background they want for the most part but its all related to school and not IRL practice at it. In your resume would you include under Knowledge and Skills that you have experience with laboratory equipment? Or would you just assume its common knowledge that you have that experience because your degree requires it?

Also as far as the cover letter would you explain that although your background is not heavy in research it is something that your interested in?

TIA

I would list it. I don't think it could hurt to emphasize the skills you have. Resumes are all about building yourself up, after all.

In my cover letter, I just explained how I would be a great fit for the FR program even though I've never worked with the FRG or FRO. Like I said, build yourself up. Resumes are all about making yourself look as good as possible.

Okay I'll remember that it's about making myself sound like a good fit and a good asset for the position.

I hope you get your job KC! I think you will be great at it.

If I get this job I'd be doing research on burns and burn treatments for kids. I think that would be so so awesome.

  • KC if I finish my cover letter tonight would you mind taking a look at it? I would have E look at it but he isn't home and I don't know what time he'll get back.

  • I am a corporate recruiter, so I thought I would chime in here.  I agree with KC, you should emphasis what skills you have that fit the job description.  I also think that it is ok to put a line in your cover letter about how interested you are, I love it when I see that people have a background I am looking for AND a passion for it!  Both your cover letter and resume should be specific for the job you are applying for, nothing bugs me more than a generic cover letter that does not even mention the job they are applying for!

I would be more than happy to look at your cover letter and resume if you want to send me a PM, if you are comfortable sharing that with me of course!
