lol, old people and technology

Okay, so my stepmom really isn't all that old, late 60's, but she doesn't seem to understand facebook al that well. It makes me giggle like a little kid :-)

She's apparently very confused about the 'like' feature on posts and comments. Just now she liked my comment 'thanks Jeff' where I thanked my cousin for voting for me and wishing me a happy birthday, instead of liking the fact that I'm in the competition. (Which is obviously what she wanted to like.)

She also doesn't know how to text. The one time I texted her she actually called me stating that she got a message that I said something and why she got that etcetera. I never tried again. My dad has by now learned texting, he used to call me immediately after he sent me a text to inform me of the fact that he texted me.

Old people and technology amuse me!

Re: lol, old people and technology

  • Lol...my grandma (84) has a cell phone, laptop and iPad, uses email and FB and has for years. But she draws the line at texting. She won't do it! She doesn't even know how to read the messages other than when they pop up on the screen. I wonder what tech it'll be for us that will make us go "I'm NOT doing that!" I'm sure when I'm my grandma's age there'll be something :)
  • My mom doesn't really get facebook either.  She is constantly writing things on people's walls and if I mention something to her about it during a phone call she ask 'How do you know that'.  I'll tell her that I read it on facebook and she is always surprised that other people can see what she wrote.  I have explained the differences between the wall and messages many times but she never seems to remember.
