Help me choose my first dance song

OK, so FH and I are stuck on first dance songs.  We don't share a favorite band or have "our" song.  The only band that means anything to us is Kings of Leon, and only because I made fun of him for not knowing who they were (in October of 2009, so it's not like they were some fresh new indie band).

So basically we're just looking for something that sounds nice and has good lyrics.  Oh, but we are trying to stay away from the classics, e.g. "At Last" by Etta James.

Regina Spektor, "Real Love"

Ray LaMontagne, "Let it be Me"

The Beatles, "And I Love Her."  My issue with this song is that it seems very one sided.  FH doesn't mind.

Ray LaMontagne, "You Are the Best Thing"

Re: Help me choose my first dance song

  • I voted "let it be me".  I wanted to dance to that with H but he vetoed it.  I LOVE THAT SONG!
  • I also love "Hold you in my arms"  by Ray LaMontagne as a first dance song.  So good.
  • We did 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by Gerry and the Pacemakers. I bet there are lots of suggestions from everyone so that you and your fianc? can agree on equally.
  • I voted You are the Best Thing, since that was out first dance song too!  We loved the pace of the song as well as the lyrics.  We also didn't really have an "our song", so we just did a lot of looking and listening until one jumped out at us.

  • I voted for 'You are the best thing'. DH and I danced to Red on a Rose, by Alan Jackson.

  • I voted Beatles, I think it's such a sweet song.

We danced to "As" by Stevie Wonder, our college friend played a ballad version on the piano and sang because otherwise it's too uptempo for a slow dance.

    Now jumping domestically.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

  • Thanks guys!  And keep 'em coming.

I like "You are the Best Thing" too, but FH isn't convinced.  Garrrr!  We are going to have to check every song out on YouTube and then wait 5 minutes for each song to load until we decide.  Or just wait until Italy when we have good internet.

  • You are the best thing was our first dance song, but it was also 2our" song, so it meant something to us :) it's awesome regardless!
  • I voted for the Beatles, thats a great song!

Our first dance was Is this love by Bob Marley.

  • I voted for "You are the Best Thing"  I like up beat songs.

We had huge fights about our first song, he would say "what will people think if I dance to that song."  WTF?

We ended up going with "Ice Cream" by Sarah McLachlan after talking about "Two Step" by DMB for over a year.

  • We danced to "The Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel, but other songs that would have been awesome were:

"Hold you in my Arms" by Ray Lamontagna

"Make you Feel My Love" by Adele

"Count on me" by Bruno Mars

  • We did Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight".  I love old stuff.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.

Italy... good internet... bwah hahahaha!  Sorry, didn't mean to freak you out, I'm sure the internet (and everything else) north o' Rome will be fine!  Down here internet is a disaster (no, for real).  Again, it's fine in Tuscany, I'm sorry, shouldn't have mentioned it.

Anyway, I've got to vote Beatles for my H (insane fan); but I'd go w/ something slightly more up-beat.  Probably my favorite would be Here, There, and Everywhere.

We were close to using it, but I just couldn't do that sweet (we're the least romantic couple in the world).  We ended up using Every Night (solo McCartney).

  • Thanks everyone... so far the "Book of Love" is our favorite although we are going back to Frank Sinatra songs.

VABeach - we use little 3G modems we plug into our computers that crash if too many people in Turkmenistan try to get online and get kicked off like 5 times daily and we can't even bother trying from about 6pm to midnight.... so I'm sure Italy will be better than this, it's all relative.  I mean, to get decent speed you have to be located in certain parts of town AND pay 700 USD a month.  This is to get dial up speed equivalent or a bit better.

God help Italy if their internet isn't better than Turkmenistan's.
