anyone have a wagon style car/suv ?

we are looking at new cars for me, since the inevitable will happen ( hopefully ) some time next year -- ( look at ticker if you have no idea what I am talking about )

anyways - right now I have a Kia Sorento, it has done well, but I am thinking in a few years, roadtrip to grandmas - dogs, luggage, carseats, baby stuff -- my Kia just doesn't have the room.

we are looking at a Dodge Magnum - they aren't made anymore - they are like a mix between American muscle and family wagon. heres the car geek in me

--5.4L Hemi engine, 8 cylinder with MDS,  AWD, 71.3 cubic feet in the rear wagon alone -- the particular one we are looking at has nav/heated seats/leather, sunroof -- its basically top of the line except it doesn't have the 6.1L engine

anyways -- if you have a wagon - do you love it/hate it ? anything I should check out on the used car ? ( we are going thru CarMax if that makes a difference )

Re: anyone have a wagon style car/suv ?

  • I think the Magnum would be big enough as a family car with dogs and gear and such.  We both have 4 door sedans so I can't help with that one.  But I would check to make sure the car has a CARFAX to make sure there was no big damage to the car, also don't they go over everything to make sure there is nothing mechanical wrong with it.
  • So my only concern would be if something goes wrong w/ the car, I assume you can potentially use other Dodge parts, yes?

Def check out the carfax, etc.

  • DH would be jealous if you got the Magnum!  He really likes that car and would like to have one.  The main reason he likes it is because we both feel that there would definitely be enough room for kids, pets, etc....

  • I think I want the Acadia next.  I truthfully haven't looked much into the specs other than I know it has 3rd row seating.  We're with you, dogs, kids, long trips and my Edge isn't enough!

  • We bought a new Kia Sorento. We got the 3rd row option which is nice however, it does limit the trunk space when all 3 rows are in use. We were able to get the middle-loaded (not a term, I know) model for $25,000. We would've loved a GMC Acadia which also has 3 rows, but it was a little pricey. I wish Ford would update the Edge and make it 3 rows. With a baby and 2 large dogs, the Edge would not work for us.

  • I adored the Magnum, it was my dream car in 2007, that is until I rented one to see if I liked it.The blind spots were terrible, it was almost impossible to drive for me. I think this had a lot to do with my height and size.Make sure you check it out before setting your heart on it.You may even want to rent one for a weekend to get a feel for it.

I also really liked the Toyota Venza, and when I went to buy one, the salesperson was a fat old man that treated me like a child and wouldn't even unlock the car for me to see the interior. That night I walked across the lot to a Honda dealership and bought my CRV.

I'd definitely check out the Venza if you have the same issue with the Magnum that I had.
