Non Baby Related...

So I know a lot of ladies have said the board has been filled with baby related posts, and while they are exciting, not everyone can relate - so it got me thinking...

What things do you want to do WITHOUT kids?

It can be a list of things you want to do before having children, or things you want to make time to do without the kids once you do have them, anything you'd like to do without kids involved.

Re: Non Baby Related...

  • Yay! Non-baby post. Thank you!

I start classes for my MBA one week from today and will be finished by August 2012 so definitely no babies between now and then.

We also want to take a road trip in New England and visit at least one international location before we have kids.

We close on our house on Friday (hopefully) so that can get crossed off the list at least.

Oh, and lots of sleeping in and drinking and staying out late and not paying for daycare.

  • Travel is definitely at the top of the list. Paris is my number one choice and I would love to return to Italy and show the hubs around since I spent a summer excavating there two years ago. I have a huge list of places so I'm not expecting to cross many off before having kiddos but I'll take what we can get! We would also like to tour a few places around the country and find a suitable location to settle down. Seattle and the Pacific Northwest area are at the top of our list but we have also considered Asheville, NC and parts of Virginia. We would also love to buy a house and get our finances in order so I can be a SAHM when the time comes. We aren't planning on having kids for several years, though, so we have plenty of time to enjoy married life!

    Anniversary
  • Definitely travel like Robyn and Ledalia. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am looking for potential trips for our 1st Anniversary.

Other things on the list to do before we have kids:

    - Find new jobs. We are OK with the ones we have now, but new ones would better.

    - Study for professional certifications. MH is studying for his PMP and I am going to start studying for my CISA.

    - Run more races. I know that I can and will continue to work out regardless, but continuing with a healthy lifestyle now will help to ensure that it carries over.

    ExerciseMilestone
  • Before we have kids, I really want to work in a few more "getaways" before babies - I know once we have little ones it wont be nearly as easy to just pickup and go.

After we have kids I want to make an effort to make time for DH and I to have some alone time regularly.  By alone time I mean going to dinner just the 2 of us, or maybe a movie date here and there - just some time to focus on us and our relationship.  I'm hoping we can do a "date night" once every 2 weeks, or once a month at least.

ETA: At some point I'd like to go to Italy, but it for sure wont be until after we have kids - most likely once the kids are a bit older.

  • Travel! Travel! Travel!

There are so many places I want to go, and we do plan to travel if/when there are kids in the picture, but I know it will be a lot harder.

Some places I've always wanted to go but haven't been yet:

    East Africa for a safari

The Galapagos Islands (that's like an obsession with me)

    Angkor Wat

    The pyramids

    Jordan and Syria

And I've always wanted to do an overland trip from St. Petersburg to China

I think it's very important to make time for your relationship and not let life overrun things (easier said than done), so I I hope we always take time to do special one-on-one things, like a concert or nice dinner, or weekend away.

  • The vacation that my ticker is for is our "last fling" before we have kids.  H and I were supposed to go on a cruise for our HM, but it got canceled 4 months before it was supposed to leave, and it was too late for us to re-book.  So we're going on one in January instead.

Since we are planning to start TTC this winter, I'm trying to enjoy as much of my time alone with H as possible.  And reading a ton of books, since I'm sure my reading time will be curtailed once we have kids.

I would really like to move to MA (H's home state) before we have kids, but depending on how soon he passes, and how quickly he gets a job out of state, I don't know when that will be or how realistic it is.

  • Meh- I don't think there is anything I would or wouldn't do with a child. I'm old though. ;-) I had my time to romp, I'm ready for something different like cheering at soccer games and an excuse for fun parks.  I've traveled a lot, jumped off crazy things, drank so much that I've lost days, so I'm good there. Heh heh.

I'm looking forward to going dogsledding again this winter. We are saving to replace the kitchen at the rental so that we can sell it next year.  We are also going to start our basement renovation this fall/winter.

I had booked DH race car lessons in his 59 corvette that he was going to do next weekend.  We just found out they don't allow convertibles - BOO. They could have told me that when I booked it and told them what he was driving - grrr.  It was a lot of money. Now he will just drive one of their cars - which is fine but just not the point.

I'd love to do a safari in Africa but I think that is my retirement trip.  I love elephants, right after Dogs and dolphins I think.  For my 40th next year we are thinking either Hawaii or a European tour. DH hasn't been to either - so it would be fun to show him.

  • I love a lot of the traveling ideas here! I'd love to see more of the US (have always enjoyed traveling in this country) as well as more of the world. Other things:

I have family all over the place, so not only would I love to travel for the sake of traveling, but to see them and vacation with them.

Skiing. I haven't been in years and miss it. It's one of those trips that's easier when you either don't have kids or have kids who are old enough to learn and enjoy it.

Horseback riding. Same as above. :)

And, as much as I look forward to being a SAHM, I also do enjoy working part-time. I'd love to continue to grow professionally and take on special projects, either writing/editing related or FAM related.
