:Duckis: re: puppy

get a puggle.

our little guy goes up against a 100+ lb bullmastiff on a daily basis.

he might be small (30ish lbs) but he's tough.

Re: :Duckis: re: puppy

  • I wish. I really don't want anything bigger than about 30 lbs, but I have a feeling that as soon as we move into a place with a yard, FI is getting the biggest, baddest pit he can find.

I actually have a mild fear of dogs. When I was about 10 I was playing outside with my 1-year-old cousin. The neighbor's dog ran over, knocked him down, and started humping him. It was traumatizing. Although, looking back, it was kindof hilarious. The baby wasn't hurt, the dog was just trying to play...or something.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying I'm afraid of pit bulls. I know they're gentle when trained, and I do think they're cute. I just know I won't be able to deal well with a big energetic dog.

  • I missed out on the puppy talk. I want to play! I have a pug you can have for free.

  • how are you with a little energetic dog? we got Wiggles when we were in an 800sf apartment, moved him to a 1000sf townhouse, then into our house. He used to do full speed laps around the apartment on a regular basis. The only thing he's ever humped was his bed (when he was a puppy - it was a dominance thing). He was almost 2 when we got Rogue (our bullmastiff) - she outgrew him within about 2 months. He wrestles with her, myself, and Ken on a regular basis.

he's small and crazy - but the nice thing is, if he gets too nutty, i can just pick him up.

you may be better with a large calm/lazy dog (like a bullmastiff) - some of these guys will do well in an apartment provided they get exercise every day.

Definetly research the breeds to get an idea of temperment.

Pits are very cute - but not the only 'tough" dog

  • yeah, we've done a lot of research, we're just at an impasse.

Min, how could you give away such a cutie?

  • I'll repost in case you didn't see it.

We got a beagle for the apartment.  It was totally perfect.  Beagles are all about, What do YOU want to do today?  Please let it include love me.  They're still dogs (they're hunters) with amazing personalities.  They come in 13" and 15" sizes.  Their coat is short and if you just brush them once/a week you can get away with bathing 1/month.

I love my corgi.  She would've done well in an apartment too I think.  Again, she's a terrier, so she's still DOG.  (I'm not found of little yappy things like mini pins and pugs, sorry MinM, I'm sure Jake is sweet, but yech).  She's a bit more bossy personality wise than the beagle, but still nice sized.
