DH and I just booked tickets to Hawaii last week (not going till late January). Would love to hear your recs/advice. We've never been and are probably splitting time between Oahu (going for the Pro Bowl) and Maui with a day trip to the Big Island to see the volcano but nothing set in stone except dates and we HAVE to stay in Marriott or Hilton chain properties (free nights).
Thx.
Re: **schydukes**
I will happily report back!
Our friend is marrying a girl from Oahu so it's destination for his family... but not hers! We've never been at all. We are flying into Kona on the Big Island, making our way to Hilo, and flying from there to H'lulu. Unfortunately, Oahu will be mostly wedding events since DH is a groomsman but we'll do Diamondhead, Pearl Harbor, and do our best to get to the North Shore. Our tentative itinerary on the BI is 1 night at Hapuna Beach, 1 in Kona after seeing Mauna Kea (we have a sunset "tour" booked, but it takes most of the day to get there and back), 2 in Volcano (we'll be stopping at various green/black beaches along the way), and 1 in Hilo. Volcano is mostly B&Bs, and we're also B&Bing it in Hilo because most hotels were... interesting. You'll find more chains in the Kona area though, but that's a hike from Volcano.
Did you see the new volcanic activity? Amazing.

If you have 2 full weeks - 14 days - you can definitely do 3 islands. We were bored in Ohau after 3 days (I think we had 4). We spent a week in Maui and it was AMAZING! I'm not sure I would have wanted to leave Maui sooner, but it's certainly doable. We also had a free place to stay in Maui, so that was part of the draw.
