Amy Butler Laminated fabric ?

Has anyone used this? What is your experience. I am new at sewing. I want to make a lunch bag for my niece for her birthday. I think this material would be the easier to clean. I am seriously worried about sewing with it as I am so new at sewing. any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Re: Amy Butler Laminated fabric ?

  • I haven't ever sewn with laminated fabrics, but on the Amy Butler website, she has a list of tips for sewing laminated fabrics. They seemed helpful when I looked over them and they made me less intimidated. I might try it some time. :)

  • I read that you need to use a longer stitch length so it does not preforate the fabric.
  • Thanks ladies, I will check out the website and lengthen my stitches.

  • I second the tips on Amy Butler's site.  I've sewn with her laminate.  Longer stitches are a good idea.

And you cannot pin the fabric in place or it will leave little holes.  Get a bunch of binder clips from your office store and use those instead.  Make sure they are big enough to clip all layers.

Tell the end user that drying is not recommended.

And, just so you know, it is about $17.50 per yard.

You can get PUL fabric significantly cheaper if you look.

Amy Butler PUL?  That is good to know Smile  I've only used it once and the price was keeping me from using it again.
