In just a few weeks we will be moving to South Carolina ..

that is if my visa comes through in time.  Currently we live in Germany and I just got my husband back (6 weeks ago) after he's been in Afghan for a year. We are very excited about my husbands new orders and we cant wait to get to Columbia but I still havent heard about my visa and am beginning to panic. I am English and we applied for the visa 2.5 months ago and i have not heard anything.

Has anyone else on here ever gone through this ?? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I am not military but sometiems visit this board, I guess because I too move around with my husband and can relate to these girls, but anyway.....  I lived in Augusta, Ga. several years ago,  ( right by the SC borader) and lived an hour away from Columbia, SC, we used to go there all the time! The zoo is great and there is a really cool museum.  If SC is too expensive ( the Carolina's are a LOT more expensive and the weather is better in Ga. ) then I  would consider living in Augusta Ga. just an hour away.  You will love living in the south, but  I am from the mid-west and it was similar.  Also, be sure to visit Savannah, Ga. it is awesome!

This is awesome.  I don't even really know what to say.

  • For us a higher COL would be very much worth not having an hour commute, we have such limited time together (not even including TADs and deployments), that tacking on an extra two hours a day would not be worth it. I too love Savannah though, and you should definitely go for a long weekend.

    Welcome to the board!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Thanks for being so nice!  I was feeling down today, you made my day! :)   I have noticed I have the same problems you guys have about getting jobs because I move all the time, and I'm sure we all have the same  issuses with long distance  friends
  • Thanks, yea those are issues to think about also. I forgot, that you guys usually have to live in military housing right?
  • I will if we can ever move back. (A job has to be available for my DH) I have been praying for like 6 years to move back. Once we got the chance and I felt like God was telling it wasn't right,,, YET (it wasn't). Maybe this Jan. we wil move back?
  • I mean it's usually Jan. that the "new" jobs start!
  • Are you talking to yourself? And I'm betting that Ojo was joking.
