The time has come for us to have a yard sale... we had boxed up so much stuff for DD's preschool's yard sale, but then they closed and we didn't know what to do with all the stuff (the little too good for Salvation Army stuff- although it will prob end up there in the end). It has been good for me to clear out the house a bit, but I am not looking forward to having a yard sale at all. I was told some of teh people can drive you crazy and it seems liek it will be crazy setting it up, esp since we do not have too many tables. I am also doing it b/c a woman i work/live near with asked me to have one since my house is on a more traveled street in our neighborhood.
My question is for those who have had yard sales... any helpful hints at all would be helpful, plus I was wondering what you do with the $$. I heard not to leave it out in a box, but I am assuming in a pocket is not an answer either b/c i would need a lot of change and small dollars too. ? Also don't knwo how to put clothes out. I don't have a ton or adult things, but enough that I don't want to waste a table (was thinking of baby clothes on table, prob the outfits on the tables and maybe random things that are all sized out in the bins if i wun out of room). I have enough hangers, but do't have any rods or rod like ideas. any thoughts? I had another question, bt can't think of it. TIA for any ways to make this easier on all of us...ugh, I just want this to be over, sell most of my stuff and make some cash. :-)
Re: yard sale ?
Is it just you doing the sale, or do you have help? We always have one person man the cash, and one to talk to people, help bag stuff up, spread things out as they sell. It was too hard to hold all the small bills and change, like you said. And as you get $20 bills, take them in the house so you don't have a lot of cash outside at any time.
We actually put clothes out on a blanket or tarp, in piles by gender and approx size. But bins would work, too. Do you have any sawhorses and plywood? We always do makeshift tables by placing plywood over the tops of sawhorses, or between 2 tables, etc. You can use hangers in a tree if you have a tree with low, small branches.
Have some plastic bags ready for people to take stuff home in, if you can.
If you don't sell some kids stuff and don't want to donate it, if it's in good condition see if a consignment shop thinks they can sell it.
