Runners Check in!

Hello ladies.

1) How did last week go?

2) Plans for this week?

3) Whats your biggest pet peeve or annoyance about running stereotypes or running in general?

Re: Runners Check in!

  • 1) Last week I finally had some time to get some runs in. I ran 4.5 on Sat, and 5 on Sunday. It felt so good!

    2) My hope this week is to get 4 runs in (3, 4.5, 3, 6). I always have a hard time getting 4 in.. so I hope I can do it.

    3) Before I was pregnant, my biggest pet peeve was people calling me crazy for running a half or full marathon.

Now that I'm pregnant, my #1 pet peeve is the comment "Oh.. you are still running???". Of course! Pregnancy is not a disability people!!! So annoying. And no, I'm not killing my baby by running. So annoying.

  • 1) How did last week go? Great! Did 4 miles with a running buddy.

    2) Plans for this week? Do another 4 on Sunday

    3) Whats your biggest pet peeve or annoyance about running stereotypes or running in general? That I do not have a runner's body. When I told people I ran a 1/2, I got that "look" of: you run? Really? Wow, you don't look like a runner. So annoying and hurtful.

I signed up for two runs. One in September and one in November (the Mermaid Run). I am looking for one in October. I think I may do the Bridge to Bridge.

  • I hope it is okay if I participate in the check in! I am a newbie to running but I am starting to really like it! 1- Last week went well! I got in 3, 5 mile runs w/o the double jogger and one 3 mile with the jogger. I also completed week 5 of c25k (I use it to warm up and interval train then I run the remainder of the workout minus the last mile to cool down.) I finally broke 12 min/mile, so that was rewarding. 2- this week I hope to do 2 longs and a short and I am researching potential races to participate in this fall. 3- I am new to running so I have not had a lot of chances to get irritated yet but it bugs me that my mom says running is bad for your lady parts and discourages me from training. Thanks for the support mom.

  • Great job ladies!!

MrsW - Of course you can participate!

  • I think I feel like I run enough now to really join in this discussion...

    1) It went alright, I have a hard time accepting where I am at now when I know where I used to be.  But that aside....I did 4 3-3.5 mile runs last week.  I am down to 10.5-11 minute miles for each mile which is a big deal for me right now.

    2) I just got new shoes, decided my old ones were not working anymore since I run differently now than I did before the hip injury.  I took them for a hike to start the break in process before running in them. I did 4 miles on Sunday and tonight I had a crap run, I stopped after 2 miles because I just was getting mad because I felt so awful.  I'll try again tomorrow.

    3) I think right now my biggest pet peeve is my own inability to let go of the old runner me and accept the new runner me, and I hate that when people hear I run about 15 miles a week they say "only 15 miles?"  I just want to sock them because I want to say: "seriously?  considering I have been running all of 2 months since having hip surgery a year ago and I CANNOT run more than 4 miles without it costing me too much the next couple days...I think 15 miles is fing great so stfu"

  • 1) I was on vacation, so I didn't get in as much running as I hoped to (and should have). Plus, I had to miss my long run on the 30th because I got a keratin treatment on my hair that prevented me from pulling it up for a couple of days. Then my toe became infected from a pedicure, and I couldn't run for a few days while it healed. Once that cleared up, DH and I did a 6 mile run in Santa Barbara (along the beach, while watching dolphins play in the water. However 4 miles in my right upper achilles started hurting again, so I took it easy for a couple of days. And then we just never really found time to squeeze in another.

    2) Last night we did hill repeats, and I was feeling the lack of running over the last week and a half. Thursday night is a 2 mile run. I'll miss Saturday's run because of DH's family reunion, but I'm hoping there's somewhere I can make it up out there.

    3) That some people look down on the run/walk method as being inferior. Especially when those people don't do much more daily exercise than walking their butts from the computer to the fridge.

  • Ah, I totally missed this earlier!

    1) How did last week go?  Ok.  Had a 5k on Saturday and went WAY off course - wound up doing a little over 7k.  (I was following a lady who was just a little faster than me for motivation and it turns out she wasn't racing, just out on her own run.  Oooops.)

    2) Plans for this week?  Nothing!  I'm taking the week off to concentrate on swimming since my OWS is Saturday.

    3) Whats your biggest pet peeve or annoyance about running stereotypes or running in general?  Ooooh!  When people presume that because I'm a "bigger" girl, I'm new to running.  I was at the running store last week to get new shoes and another patron was like "You'll LOVE running once you get going."  Grrrrrr.
