I thought the book was better of course, but I thought they did a good job and kept it pretty close.

I will say I cried A LOT!!!!

How comedy heavy is the movie? I don't recall the book having much to laugh at, but the commercials make it seem like a riot.

There are a couple of giggle spots, i laughed at some of the comments the maids made and the girlfriends were laughed at due to stupidity. Not high on the comedy.

For us there was more crying than laughing, but a few comical scenes. i have not read the book, but I was pretty impressed with the acting and movie overall.

Definitely a few giggle scenes, but overall, still very serious in nature. I thought it was excellent.

I read Sarah's Key. It's a great book...heavy topic though. It will definitely be a tear-jerker of a movie.

I thought they did a great job keeping the movie close to the book. They did a good job with casting too. I really enjoyed it.

And, there's a few funny parts but it's mostly a serious movie.

I saw the movie last night. I thought it was really well done. Fantastic casting and acting. A few minor changes from the book but overall stayed very true to the original storyline. The were a few funny moments, especially with Hilly's mom.

Interesting that you thought that, because I was surprised and baffled at the tone of the commercials. I read the book and saw the movie earlier today and both have a completely different tone than the commercials. IMO, the commercials focused on more on the experiences of the white characters, when I thought that the voices of the black domestics were given much heavier weight in the book. Both the book and the film address serious issues and there were a few sniffles around the theater and I think that component was sort of missed with the fun and sassy trailer. I guess the marketing department is just trying to get people in the seats...

I just saw it - I have not read the book.

I laughed, I cried, laughed and cried some more. I really liked it. The audience I was in clapped at the end.

I LOVED Hilly's mom - she was funny

I would say it's more inspired by the book than based on the book. I wasn't too thrilled about it.
