Here we go again... (Updated)
Remember last year when the ILs booked a cruise over Lucie's due date? Well, yesterday MIL informed me they're on a 3 week cruise over her bday. That's fine, I don't really care. I responded with "Oh, that's a shame, you'll miss Lucie's birthday and her birthday party." She told me she wants to throw a birthday party for her 2 weeks early so she can see her eat cake, being that I'm throwing a bday party when they're gone and that we go to England the day before they get back and she doesn't want to miss it. Well, here's the thing, maybe I sound silly, but to me, a 1st birthday is kind of a big deal and I don't want Lucie having a celebration 2 weeks before her birthday, just because MIL doesn't want to miss it. I'm her mother, and I want her first taste of bday cake to be on her bday. I don't want to pretend it's earlier when it's not. I know it might sound silly, but that's just the way I feel.
I think I might politely say that it's very nice of her to want to throw Lucie a party but could we please do it when we get back from England as I want her actual birthday to be the first celebration. If she's really that upset about it, she shouldn't have booked her vacation during that time!
Ok, vent over. Do I sound ridiculous?
Update: She responded to my email and thanked me for being honest and that yes, we can do it after we get back from the UK. She said they had booked this trip last year on their cruise before Lucie was born - however, I don't have much sympathy considering the trip is Oct 24-Nov 8. Lucie's DD was Oct 29, so she was more than likely going to be born during that window! However, I did find out that she invited someone to DH's cousin's bridal shower who DH's cousin did not invite so I have spent the evening trying to solve that problem! Hah.

Nope. Not ridiculous. It IS special, and Mama, you do what YOU want! Sorry about her luck. She must not be too sorry about missing it, otherwise she would have picked different dates for her vacation.
In-Laws... can't live with em... can't shoot em =( I'm stuck with a super lousy pair, myself. Oh well.

Glad to see she is listening to you. She shouldn't have booked her cruise for this time if she wanted so bad to be there for Lucie's birthday as she knew that she could be born during that time frame. It is your child and not her's.
