BC Question

I am currently on the birth control pill, Safyral.  My doctor put me on that one compared to other leading brands since I wear contact lenses and we were afraid of eye dryness with Junel and Loestrin.  Anyways I started taking it on May 22nd.  I had my period in June, it was a full week.  In July, I had my period, but it was shorter only 4 days and I was suppose to get my period this week, but it still hasn't come yet.  Safyral isn't suppose to eliminate your period and I am sure that I'm not pregnant, but I am just a tad worried though.

The question is, since my period hasn't come should I just start the new pack tomorrow?  (Normally I'd start it this Sunday)  Or does anyone that take Safyral have any advice about it concerning this.  Thanks! :)

Re: BC Question

  • I would take your pill as you normally would. So if you aren't supposed to start a new pack til Sunday, don't. If you are concerned about skipping a period, I would call your doctor but continue taking the pills as recommended unless he/she advises otherwise.

  • Okay, I was just worried, because I specifically told my doctor I didn't want a bc method that would make me skip periods because IMO I just don't think it's natural to skip them.  Thanks for the advice :)

  • You need to start your new pack exactly as you are supposed to. So if you are supposed to start Sunday then that is what you should do. It is normal for your period to start later than on your first "placebo" day. Sometimes it wont start until after you have started your next pack. Sometimes, it might not come at all, especially as your body adjusts. Even if it is not specifically listed as a side effect, it is entirely possible. If you are really concerned you can call your doctor, but she will likely just advise you take a pregnancy test.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies, but I got my period late last night.  I guess it seems that I will be getting my period midway through my placebo week since that is what happened last month.
