Mobile over the crib, or no?
I'm thinking of attempting to make something that coordinates with the valances/crib skirt fabric to hang from the ceiling - something like THIS (with no glitter) but I don't know if it's even really worth it
Re: Moms/Moms-to-be
haha luckily Sox is an old fart and knows that he wouldn't even be able to attempt to get it (same with jumping into the crib)
Suri had a mobile. She was mesmerized by it for a little while then got over it.
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
They say that once baby can sit up you have to remove/move the mobile, but we registered for one that I thought was cute.
I have heard also of people mounting it over the changing table instead, which I think is a cute idea.
My new crib is already all scratched up thanks to monsterboy... and the breathable bumper may be more breathable than normal thanks to him hanging off of it when he miscalculates a jump.
Are you doing a theme for your nursery?
I never used a mobile, but have always used this with Brody. It has two images that it projects, one for younger babies and one for older babies/toddlers. I love that it doubles as white noise machine (I used the ocean sounds mode) and that it's portable so I can take it with us if B needs to sleep somewhere other than home. I also used it as a nighlight when he was much younger so I could change his diaper or do a night feeding without turning on lights.
not really a theme. I picked out fabric and my mom is making valances and a crib skirt and I'll use coordinating fabrics for other things. This is the fabric I have:
We never used one. My mom has one on the crib at her house because it came with her bedding and once Brynn was able to stand it took her forever to get to sleep because she would just play with it.
I'm glad we didn't get one.
This is the fabric I bought to make Ariana's bedding...
And this is the mobile I made to go with it...
I hung it over her crib when she was about 3 months old, and it is still there. She loves looking at it and watching it move when the a/c comes on. It's high enough so that she cannot reach it (she's standing now), so it's not something I have to take down any time soon.
nah, we didn't do one.
I think it is good because Lucy was always the type that she needed it very relaxed to sleep, so something like that she would have been all "oooh sparkly, I'm not sleeping"
Thanks for the input ladies!
My thoughts about not doing one is what a lot of you have mentioned - either the baby trying to grab it (though I would hang it from the ceiling, so it would be pretty far away) and it being more distracting than soothing/helping to put to sleep.
But then other days I get bored and kind of want to try and make one. haha. we'll see!
We had one but barely ever used it. It was one of those things my MIL insisted we needed. Our biggest help Maddy get to sleep thing was the seahorse(Thanks Amanda seeing as how you helped me decide to go for it). She still uses her seahorse to this day and we love that it is portable for going other places.
