Weird business trip

Our company had a merger about 8 months ago and I have moved to a project with a team in Virginia. I have been working with them for about 2 months, so my boss and I thought it would be a good idea to go up and meet the team and have some face-to-face meetings.

I scheduled our first meeting of the day for 9:30. we arrived at the office at 9:10. No one was here and the lights were off. Finally there was a guy who came in and said that the team we were here to see weren't in yet, but we could wait in the conference room. At 9:45 the team started rolling in while complaining about the traffic. They said it took them about 45 minutes to get in. Okay, that is normal for us.

No one introduced themselves offered us a drink or a desk to work at. Then at the end of the day 2 of the managers we are here to meet asked if they needed to come into the office. Really? We flew in to see them. sheesh.

Re: Weird business trip

  • Wow. No one shows up until after 9am? Sounds... relaxed.
  • How do you meet someone (who flew halfway across the country to meet with you) in person for the first time and not introduce yourself??

  • Yeah, I don't get it either. Common courtesy is seriously lacking here. Oh, and it seems that most people work from home more often than not. One of the guys who asked if he needed to come in to see us will be in Houston next week. He is in for a culture shock. Our office is run by grown ups.
