WWYD re: creepy

About 20 minutes ago, I just happened to be in our kitchen with the blinds open, and noticed an SUV circling our culdesac. No big deal, it happens all the time. They stopped in front of the house across the street, and I just happened to look up again as the driver snapped a picture of the front of our house.

I know he saw me in the kitchen, as it's pretty easy even if the blinds are slightly open. Before I could get out the front door, he drove off toward the back of the subdivision (only one way in/out). I went inside to grab my phone just in case, and walked outside just as he was speeding back out (too fast to get a license plate number).

I called DH, and he said just keep an eye out. I thought maybe I should call the police if only to report the weird behavior, just in case something should happen later so it's on record? WWYD?

  • Do you know the people that own the house? You could always just call dispatch and ask them. Its a non-emergency number (at least in Alachua County).

Sorry, wasn't clear. It was OUR house he took a picture of. Just parked across the street.

  • Do you think it had anything to do with the fence or termite issues you've had lately? Maybe the company needed a pic of your house for their records? I agree it is kind of creepy.

  • If it makes you feel better, call the police.

I probably wouldn't do anything other than tell DH.

  • I would report it to the police for suspicious behavior.
  • We experienced something similar after buying a house. I approached the lady in her SUV and she said she was taking a picture for area real estate comps. It freaked me out at first, but males since. You could call and report it and ask for them to have an officer ride by the area this afternoon.
  • cake, whatever happened with the barking dog?  Did you investigate further or does it seem to be inside now?
  • I was wondering that Jodi, which along with his behavior, was why I got creeped out by it.

I did call the police dispatch, and they created an incident number, and said they'd come by if I wanted. I told them it wasn't that big a deal (I doubt they'll be back anyway). The officer I spoke to asked about the fence/termite issues, and suggested we go ahead and have an attorney on retainer just in case because he would guess it was somehow connected.

come to think of it, when we got our house appraised, we were given a report of comps, homes that had sold in the last 3-6 months. each home had 1 outside picture that the appraiser had taken. didn't you guys recently buy? maybe it's as simple as that...?

Make that three of us. I thought about it last night when I went for a run & I realized I could hear Gussy yapping his face off a tenth of a mile away.
