Anyone have Verizon FIOS phone and ADT alarm system?

We're switching to FIOS and I'm wondering if we'll be able to get rid of that $7 cell phone fee that we're charged because we don't have a land-line.  Does anyone know if ADT considers FIOS a land-line?  We can't seem to get a consistent/straight answer from them.  TIA!

  • it's still a land line. FIOS is just fiber optic cables that run to your house, not copper.

we have FIOS and Broadview (which was Brinks which I think is now ADT?) and it's a landline.

  • That's what I thought but we currently have Comcast phone and they don't consider that a land-line.

  • ??? that's the most bizarre thing i've ever heard! who do they think you have to have service with for them to consider it a land line?

  • Is it a VOIP system? If it's using the internet to make phone calls, and would be unavailable in the event of a power outage, then I could understand why it isn't considered a land line.

  • We have FIOS and love it. No idea about how it is with ADT, but I would recommend waiting to get it installed until Verizon corporate has and the employees have come to a contract agreement. Right now Verizon has managers and scabs doing installations and they are not nearly as well trained as the regular workers. Just my 2 cents.

I think this was the issue with Comcast so I'm wondering if they consider FIOS a VOIP system too....

  • We have FiOS and ADT and they have no issues with using it as our phone line.
