  • None. I don't think our county covered it until high school, and I was home schooled those years. My mom had the denial approach, "If I don't tell her, she won't know what's going on." BS. That's why I plan to inform my boys as much as possible, so they at least have the knowledge to know how to handle themselves.

I do struggle though, with having them taught by someone other than me and DH. I understand why the schools have to do it though, because most parents just don't do it themselves. I figure I'll make sure my boys know everything before they get to where the school's teaching it. That way, they've heard it from me first, and can judge what they're taught accordingly.

  • We were shown pictures of gnarly STDs & told that abstinence was the only way to prevent getting chlamydia & dying. It was essentially like Mean Girls, except we weren't given condoms in the end.

  • We watched a video in Jr. High (I think?) that was pretty specific. My mom showed me a video on her own right before and talked to me about it so the one I watched in school wasn't a surprise.

  • I went to HS in Florida. We were taught abstinence only. ETA: And not until junior year of HS.
  • We were taught sex ed in health, freshman year of high school. My mom had already covered most of the topics before I took this class. Sex was not a strange topic at our house growing up.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • None.  The age that I think sex ed was taught (I would assume middle school aged) I was in Catholic school.

What middle school did you go to?! At first I thought 6th...but now I'm thinking it was 7th, we were split from the boys and each got their own gender specific version of sex ed. Then we ALL got to watch a video of a live birth. Yeah. That was fun.

    ETA: Deltona Middle

What?! That's where I went and I don't remember that AT ALL. I know in 6th we got separated and told about our periods (and we all threw the tampons at each other afterwards) and got checked for scoliosis in the locker rooms I think, but I don't remember anything about sex ed and I definitely don't remember a live birth video! The only thing I got was at DHS junior year when I took health and they told us if we had sex before we got married we would certainly get AIDS and pregnant and die. Or something along those lines.

That's fantastic. At PRHS they must have figured that we were already doing it, so what would be the point?

  • We were taught sex ed by a nun in our all-girls' Catholic high school....I think I blocked it out.

ETA: However, the nun that taught us left the nunnery years later, to have sex I assume.

  • I went to a Baptist school and was taught general health including sex ed in middle school by the gym teacher. It was very general with the sex part, as per typical focusing on womanly parts, STD's, and baby birthing. In high school, I didn't take it, although it was an elective. My mother gave me a couple of jesusy sex ed books about the middle school age as well. It focused a lot on Jesus watching couples holding hands, then cartoon drawings of sperm and eggs. It was so educational.
  • I remember learning about STDs in 10th grade and basic reproduction in 5th grade but that's it.
  • We were split up from the boys in 5th grade.. the boys went out and played kickball. The girls talked about getting our periods. I don't think anyone at any school ever mentioned sex.

This is what we did too. I only remember period talk, never any actual sex ed.
