and another

this project has also caused us to shop for new couches....the couches were not ruined but they were in pretty bad shape anyways and we will be getting new floors and who wants old couches on new floor...haha (see how this project that insurance is covering is ending up costing us a ton of $$)...haha

anyways, we want some decent fairly inexpensive but not cheap couches...I know many people who have spent several thousand dollars on couches that dont hold up at all.  Has anyone ever bought couches at costco/sams etc...they look like such good deals but who knows if they hold up?  Thanks!

Re: and another

  • La-z-boy sometimes has good sales and Labor Day is around the corner.  Maybe browse and see if anything catches your eye and wait for the sale.  Not sure on the Costco furniture, but you're right they prices seem good.  I've never seen anything of low quality at Costco maybe check the return policy on furniture.
  • I was just shopping for couches and chairs for my bff last week.  Check JCPenney and Macys.

Penneys had some really nice couches for under $1000.

Same bff had a bed set and living room set from Big Lots and they both lasted her 3 years in college and 5 years out of college - so if you have a Big Lots near you, try there too.

  • I know we did lots of research on Costco's very own furniture store (only in Washington state) and everyone had rave reviews a few years ago.  I personally would stand by Costco but I have never bought furniture there, they now have what we want for a fraction of the cost, but we are stuck with our sofa.  We have also bought a sofa from Value City Furniture and the springs ended up collapsing.  A friend had bought it from us at that time and I think her and her boyfriend were having some fun on it.  Anyway, Value City Furniture repaired the whole thing and has a good warranty program.

  • I have only read good reviews online for Costco furniture although I do not own any.  We've been seriously considering some bedroom furniture from there, and I've never read anything negative.  Have you checked the Crate and Barrel outlet or the as is section of the store.  They often have great furniture there at some pretty good discounts.  While I don't own one, I have heard good things about the Ikea Ektorp Couch.  I would try it out in the store first.  I bought my sleeper sofa for under a $1000 from Hamilton's about 7 years ago, and it's help up pretty well.  I think I need to replace the back cushion on the matching chair because someone rather heavy sat on it (instead of leaning against it) and it has never fluffed back up, but that is my only complaint.
