Just had a phone interview-online teaching

The interviewer told me that the interview process is ongoing. She also told me the next step in the process is a half day training. No confirmation on whether I got the job....I though the interview went well, just don't know what to think.....I asked about training opportunities, team teaching, what they look for in a teacher...etc. There were three people on the interview....

Re: Just had a phone interview-online teaching

  • Ohh, where did you interview?  I'm working on a certificate in online teaching right now to "legitimize" myself more.  I want to be in the online world more!
  • Florida Virtual School-the online certificate would help you a lot!

  • That's what I'm hoping.  I already run all of my classes as hybrids.  I run my own Moodle site.  Moodle is the open source course management system, like Blackboard.
  • Do you own your own company?

Do you own your own company?

No.  I'm just a regular high school teacher.  My classroom is a computer lab, so I take full advantage of it.  My students are well versed in the online world because I have them complete their assignments electronically on my website.  They access their assignments on my website.  We use many Web 2.0 tools in class.  I think it's important that they have exposure to the online world of education before they get to college.  So many schools are offering online courses now and they'll have a leg up after already being comfortable with it.

I pay for my own domain and host and just do the admin work myself.  Moodle itself is free and there's lots of support on the Moodle forums from other people running sites.

I'd love to teach online classes for another school in the near future.  I wouldn't quit my regular day job.  It's just something that I want to do on the side.  I'm very experienced, but haven't had an official online job yet.  I'm doing the certificate in online teaching/learning to help make me stand out!  I hope it works  :)

    How was your interview?

  • The interview was great-just haven't heard yet-waiting, waiting, waiting.....
