A Little Stressed, A Little Excited, a Lot Hopeful

So... E works for an outsource IT company. Basically, they're the "IT" department for several companies that need consistent support but aren't big enough for their own in-house department. He started with this company over 3 years ago as a consultant when he'd been running his own IT consulting company for about 10 years. He'd been doing primarily residential support up to then. They offered him a full time position right around the time when the economy tanked, and right after we met. He apparently knew we were going to get serious and felt like he needed a steady, "real" job to "live up to me" especially since I was a lawyer and seemed to have my sh!t together, so he took it.

Not long after he got his recent promotion, all hell broke loose. His boss, the best guy in the company, left. Half the company followed. They're not offering enough money to hire people quickly to replace the bodies, or enough to get quality employees. A good portion of their team is actually in the Philippines. E hates it now. It got to the point where he was calling out sick because the thought of going in made him physically ill.

So, with my OK, he quit. Monday may be his last day.

He's been.sending resumes, started that even before he quit, no offers yet, but lots of potential. But I know that's not really what he wants. He wants his own business back. He was sort of talking about it, told me that he's got a for-sure lucrative client lined up (the monthly payment from this company would only be slightly less than his current monthly take-home)... but he was sort of hedging around it, not biting the bullet and telling the client company that he wanted to sign them for real.

Yesterday I realized he was waiting for my permission. I told him to just do.it. stop futzing around, pick a company name, get a website together, order cards on Vistaprint, and hop to it. So yesterday, Logical Lemur IT was born. I can tell he's both terrified and happy. I'm oddly not terrified. And I think my trust makes him even more nervous.

The point is, wish us luck! And if you know any companies in the market for outsource IT, let me know. A lot of it is done remotely so he can have clients pretty much anywhere.
