UK ILR - tofu or any others?
When you apply for ILR (mine will be from a Tier 1 visa - so 5 years in) how long are you allowed to have been out of the UK for in those 5 years?
Re: UK ILR - tofu or any others?
I think you are allowed out of the country for 3 months of every year.
ETA: I found this, although they do talk about Naturalisation and not ILR, which is the next step anyway -
To qualify for Naturalisation, you must not spend more than 90 days outside the UK in the 12 months before applying and for no more than 450 days in the 5 years before the application is submitted. It's not very straightforward, to be honest.
If during your 5 years you spend a consecutive period of 3 months outside of the UK at any time you will break the qualifying period and need to start over.
During the 5 year period you can spend a cumulative total of 6 months outside of the UK, but business trips necessary to maintain your employment in the UK are not counted, nor are other types of trips.
However, if you are applying for ILR using a combination of eligible visas over your 5 year period this changes the total of allowed absences.
The standard for Tier 1's and Tier 2's is a bit different than other categories, as they work on the basis of standard employment holiday allotment in the UK, which is 28 days/year, + a bit extra.
Let me know if you think you are getting worried about your allowed days and I can try to help you out with that.
Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
