Has anyone stayed in a hostel in London?

I've been asked to recommend hostels in London for a young couple visiting next summer. Any suggestions? Or any affordable hotels/b&b?

Re: Has anyone stayed in a hostel in London?

  • I haven't but hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com, combined with Trip Advisor, have never let me down.

I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of a recommendation, though.....

  • They are doing their own research but wanted to know if I had a recommendation for them. I have never stayed in a hostel anywhere though!
  • The LSE offers out its accommodation for a reasonable rate during summers and holiday periods. This isn't just dorms--there are also some junior studios and even some penthouse suites overlooking the Thames. The rates (except on that penthouse, of course) are pretty affordable, and many of the dorms are really central.

  • I stayed at St Christophers near London Bridge when I came over once with nowhere to live... I can't remember if I was freaking out because of the place itself or my situation, but I would NOT recommend it.

Sometimes travelodge do really cheap rates too, esp if you book early?

  • Hostels aren't always big, skeezy dorms.  I've stayed at plenty of hostels in Europe that offer private rooms with a private bathroom.

  • I would suggest the website London b&bs.  I did this for 10 days while trying to find accomodation in London.  I would suggest staying either Central or North (Hampstead, Swiss Cottage, West Hampstead).
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • The first time I came to London (for andrea and hamilton's baby shower!) littleredbuttons, christit and mrs.e and I all stayed in the Globetrotter Hostel. Super affordable, right near the tube and very clean, etc.

  • I stayed at the YHA in Holland Park when I was 18, back in 1992, and it seemed nice and quiet. I then stayed at the YHA in Soho a few years later. Not nearly as quiet but much more fun.
