WWYD Crock Pot Related

A few weeks ago I dropped my crock pot lid and it cracked. I called GE and they don't sell replacement lids.

My mom suggested I try goodwill to see if they have any lids that would fit my pot.

I haven't had time to do that, but H is poo pooing my idea because he thinks I'm going to waste a ton of time/money driving around looking for a lid. He just wants me to go buy a new one and toss the old one. I hate to do that bc the old one is awesome and still in perfect working condition, except for the missing lid.

The new one that I'm considering is a little smaller, but gets really good reviews. It'll be about $40 to get the new one.

Would you get a new one, search for a new lid or do something else?

Re: WWYD Crock Pot Related

  • Does Goodwill have lids only? Will they sell just the lid?

I don't think I'd spend tons of time or go out of my way to look for a used one, because I'd assume I'd have to buy the entire used crock pot and I don't really want two crock pot bases laying around my house.

I vote you freecycle the one you have and go buy the one you want.

My mom was convinced that goodwill would have a bin of lids only that I could dig though to see if I can find something that works.

I know I won't find the exact lid, but anything that size/shape should work, right?

  • i'd buy a new one.

You could give your old crock pot a funeral.... Wink  It would be a good way to say your "goodbyes."

Cremate, and then make a new crock pot from it's ashes.

    THIS!

Well, honestly, you obviously have very strong feelings about your current crock. I say, go to one or two Goodwills and look for a suitable replacement. If you can't find it relatively easily after that, THEN get the new one. Give it a try but don't waste lots of time stress trying to replace the lid. :) But you never know...I ruined the thin grater to our Ikea cheese grater. While a replacement would only be a few bucks, then I'd have extra bits lying around and really...it's wasteful. I happened to be at Goodwill browsing for project stuff and saw the exact same size grater lid for the Ikea thing and picked it up for a buck. I didn't waste money/time/gas going to get a new one for $4 where then I'd have all these extra pieces around the house, so I reduced/reused. :)

Give it a try, if you have time.  Otherwise, donate yours and someone else can do the mix-and-matching.

  • ok, this post got hysterical with the cremate vs. bury!

My thoughts: get a new one with a lid that fits the old one.  That way you can just use the old one until it really bites the dust and then you'll have a new one all ready for you :D  In the mean time I would use it for storing stuff, or pot a plant in it ;)  Alternatively, you may find that you like the new one better, but sometimes they just don't make 'em like they used to.

  • uw. buy a new one. i LOVE amanda's suggestion!
