Maren got a pair of pink sparkly ones while we were on vacation. I got some as well. Did you know Sketchers makes BOBS- look very similar and they donate 2 pairs of shoes for every pair bought?

Re: Speaking of TOMS
Just went to Shoe Carnival over lunch to buy school shoes and they have BOBS there, and right now it's buy one get on 1/2 off and another $5 off a purchase of $34.95 or more coupon online....I think the BOBS for adults were on sale for $29.99...I was tempted as I've been eyeing them for a while. Younkers at Westroads has them as well.
I did score two pairs of nikes Tennies and 2 pairs of soccer cleats for the little boys for $77...made them do two seperate transactions so I could use two $5 off coupons.
BOBS looks just like TOMS.

I just like the sparkly ones...
But I have really wanted these for a while:
and these:
I had no idea what TOMS looked like either.
Yes - they are supposed to be extremely comfy. For each pair purchased, they donate a pair as well. The problem (which I had NO clue about until about a month ago) is that these types of charities really hurt places where they donate shoes to. It hurts local manufacturing and local people who are trying to make a living. There is a huge controversy about it and many people no longer support companies like TOMS. Here is just one website of hundreds probably: http://goodintents.org/in-kind-donations/toms-shoes There is a girl over on PC&E that can probably right a book on why purchasing TOMS shoes is a bad idea. I guess I don't understand it all fully - but I still think there are a few cute pairs and I love the tweed wedges on their website! http://www.toms.com/womens/metallic-tweed-women-s-wedges-9394
Anyways, I understand how bad it is, but I do love the One Day Without Shoes that TOMS does as I think it can raise a lot of awareness. They make fabulous videos as well!
While I didn't read the entire article(s), mostly because it turned me off immediately by using the term "Whites in Shining Armor," I can't get on board with what they're trying to convince me of.
Sure, giving away shoes will not solve the world's poverty problem, but at least he's doing something, you know? Should TOMS just stop giving shoes that are helping to prevent terrible disease because of the local economy? It's not like the people (kids) receiving shoes could even buy from, or contribute to, the local economy, right?
Instead of these people attacking TOMS, a company actually trying to help, they should look into where their OWN shoes came from. Or look into the practices of, say, the American Red Cross, who's got a lot more issues, in my opinion, than TOMS.
As one commenter put it: Please keep a healthy dose of perspective before attacking one of the very few companies that cares about more than money.
I think the thing that gets people is that they should work with people locally in other countries to produce those shoes they are giving away for free. Help build the economies by paying those same people who need shoes, to make them. Does that make sense?
Again, I don't understand it fully. There is a girl on the PC&E board that could seriously talk for hours about it. She works for some sort of international relief organization and her views are very interesting since she sees things from a different perspective. Actually, her views on all international issues are very interesting.
