I've been taking a step class since January in, *gasp*, my running shoes. (My mom's gym won't even let you in the classroom with running shoes!) Cross-training shoes are usually sooooo ugly though (bright white or solid black, boxy, high ankle support), but I'm afraid that the tread of my running shoes will one day catch on my step and I'll do a lovely little faceplant (have had a few close calls already). My instructor somehow wears running shoes, otherwise I'd ask her.
Anyone wear and recommend their classroom shoes? Are cross-trainers what I should be looking at? My mom wears Ryka or Avia but I'm not crazy about their appearance (and many are only available online). But at this point, I'm starting to develop some heel problems and need some more cushion for all that bouncing. Help?
TIA!
Re: aerobics shoes recs?
I don't know what your budget it like, but I really like Reebok's cross trainers.

They're widely available in multiple colors, but if you hate everything you find, you can go to their website and custom mix a pair for about $100
I have a pair of the TrainTone shoes that I really like. They aren't going to make your butt instantly firm or anything, but my calves and thighs do work harder in them.
Stand up for something you believe in.

Asic's makes a really nice gel shoe specifiaclly for cross training. I'm not sure but you might want to check Lady Foot Locker, I think I saw them there.
Also I'm not sure who around here would have one but Brooks makes excellent shoes, I have 2 pair of running shoes from them that I bought from Pacers.
I really like Nike Musique...they came recommended for Zumba but I'm sure it does just as well in aerobics.
