Research - your office space.

I need to write three blogs for a new website I'm creating and I am curious about what is important to you in your work environment.  If you have time and don't mind, I'd appreciate anyone's input and answers to the following questions:

1.  How big would you say your office/compay that you work for?  Small, medium, or large?

2. Do you like the workstation or desk that you sit at? Why or Why not?

3. What do like most about your surrounding office environment?

4. If you could ask your company to change one thing about the space or office you work in, what would it be?

Thank you! I appreciate your help!

Re: Research - your office space.

  • 1.  How big would you say your office/compay that you work for?  Small, medium, or large?

    Small

    2. Do you like the workstation or desk that you sit at? Why or Why not?

I like where I am as far as location in the office, I do not like that my back is facing the door and people can come right up and see what is on my desktop. I work with a lot of AP / AR/ Payroll and I don't need to share that.

    3. What do like most about your surrounding office environment?

I have a huge window that I can look out and see the bluffs and watch the bords soaring over the river.

    4. If you could ask your company to change one thing about the space or office you work in, what would it be?

I would like to flip my desk around so I can see the door and have my screen a little more private. But then I would be open to my boss staring straight on...awkward.

  • 1. Large for the size of my city

    2. I like it because it's away from everyone else, but I'm in the public eye and I don't like that all the time. Overall like.

    3. I like the coworkers I can visit with. We're not too close, but just close enough that when people walk in and ask a question we can help if need be. I love my office girls!

    4. I'd ask to change my chair. It doesn't slide under my desk and that irritates me beyond belief!

Hope this helps! I like these things so let me know if you have more questions!

  • 1. Small subsidiary of a medium sized company

    2. Not particularly. The desk fell apart one day and landed on my lap

    3. It's quiet

    4. More windows

  • 1. Medium, by local standards

    2.  It's okay.  It could be larger and have more storage space.

    3.  It's relatively private without being isolated.  Also, because I have two  windows, I can turn off the overhead fluorescents and get by with natural light and a desk lamp.  Fluorescents trigger my migraines.  I can also open the windows and have fresh air on mild days.  One more thing: I can have music playing without disturbing anyone else.  Another thing: the office is painted a lovely soft grey instead of the usual dreary white.

    4.  It could be larger.  Furniture placement is tricky.

  • 1.  How big would you say your office/compay that you work for?  Small, medium, or large?

    Small

    2. Do you like the workstation or desk that you sit at? Why or Why not?

I really don't like it. I recently was able to move my desk to be by a window (which I love!) but I do not like my desk. I chose to have a smaller space (I'm kind of in a corner) so I could be by a window...but it's worth the sacrifice. Also, my desk is old, metal, and outdated. I hate it. It's super heavy and I honestly feel like it holds me back (in my mindset) in terms of where my company is going. It's a fast moving, high pressure, big personality job, and I would prefer a sleek, modern, "I work really hard here" desk. I know that's weird...but the heaviness and ugliness of my desk brings me down in my brain about my work. Weird!

    3. What do like most about your surrounding office environment?

I love the people. I love that I'm by a window and I look over beautiful greenery (I live in the great northwest-Seattle!) I love dual monitors, and that my boss will basically buy and technology devise if he believes it will increase our business. (I guess I've never talked to him about the desk..)

    4. If you could ask your company to change one thing about the space or office you work in, what would it be?

Move to a bigger building. We're in an OK sized one now, but we're growing and starting to feel cramped! And, obviously, a new desk! (for all of us...)

  • I am transitioning into going back into freelance work, but I'll answer for my current working environment, as it is pretty pleasant.

    1.  How big would you say your office/compay that you work for?  Small, medium, or large?

    Small - staff of 35

    2. Do you like the workstation or desk that you sit at? Why or Why not?

Love it. Due to the fact that I do graphic design, I am tied to a really large format printer. Because of that, I have one of the largest offices in the museum at which I work. Being a museum, it's already a lovely place to work and I have access to nice wall-hangings. I am also allowed to decorate however I want since creativity is encouraged in my workplace. I don't use overhead lights, but lamps instead. I have a big colorful area rug, lots of beautiful paintings, I sit in a corner office with nice lighting, am far enough away from everyone to play music that I like, and have plenty of storage for my print collateral and archives.

    3. What do like most about your surrounding office environment? I love the lighting and the allowance to be creative in my working space.

    4. If you could ask your company to change one thing about the space or office you work in, what would it be?

Absolutely nothing. I am leaving, but if I could take my office with me, I would.

  • 1.  How big would you say your office/compay that you work for?  Small, medium, or large?

Large- I work for our county's school system

    2. Do you like the workstation or desk that you sit at? Why or Why not?

I actually do like my desk. It's old and one of the drawers doesn't close all the way but it's comfortable to sit at and has plenty of storage space.

    3. What do like most about your surrounding office environment?

I basically work in my own little building because I'm an audiologist and it's where my test suite is. I like the privacy and the quiet because I tend to get distracted easily.  I do share the building with a few other people but they tend to be out of the office quite a bit because they're out at our schools.

    4. If you could ask your company to change one thing about the space or office you work in, what would it be?

I wish I had a window for some natural light. Right now my office area is in a "nook" of sorts and there are two others sharing the only office space with a window in this building. Technically that space should have been my office but they moved in to that room prior to when I started working here, when my position was unfilled.

  • 1.  How big would you say your office/compay that you work for?  Small, medium, or large?  Medium - over 1000 employees but probably 1/2 that at my location

    2. Do you like the workstation or desk that you sit at? Why or Why not? yes, it meets my needs size wise and I have plenty of cabinet, drawer, desktop space also I sit by an atrium with lots of light and plants and hearing the waterfall is peaceful.

    3. What do like most about your surrounding office environment? sitting close to my boss -- very handy when I have an immediate issue or question

    4. If you could ask your company to change one thing about the space or office you work in, what would it be? need more break/kitchen space.  I work on the 2nd floor of a 2 story building and there is no fridge/break room on our floor.
