I know its been asked before, but...
We're going to a concert tonight (Barenaked Ladies at Hampton Beach!!) and a friend of mine will be watching DS. We'll drop him off with her at 6:30 ish, and the show starts at 8, don't know how long the show will last, so I'm not sure when we'll pick him up (although she's a stone's throw away from the venue).
Any suggestions for how much to pay her? She and I haven't talked money at all, so she may not even expect it, but I intend to leave her something for helping me.
Re: babysitter pay?
I have found the average in Maine is around $10/hr at minimum.
Which is why we never go out.
I was going to say maybe in the $8/hr. range? I remember way back when I was a babysitter, I earned around minimum wage.
I've heard the $10/hr. figure quoted on the national boards but I thought that might be more for HCOL areas.
When DH and I were at his sister's wedding in Sugarloaf, one of her former students (high school age) stayed in our hotel room with Helen for 3 hours while Helen slept; we paid her $20 and SIL said that was plenty of money.
I usually do this...$10/hr while awake and $5 when they are asleep...less work...less pay? Most of my sitters have been shocked when they get paid!! LOL Parents have even said that I have given too much!!
But in fairness...Preston has some special needs..although he is easier to care for than a 2yr old!!
