Mad Men season 4 question
Did different producers grab hold of this show? Because the tone, the writing, the directing, the subtlety of the actors... all totally different. Is it because the firm changed hands and it was done on purpose? Is there something I haven't read up on, some drama other than the contracts issue with AMC?
It makes me really frustrated, if you haven't noticed. lol. I don't want to watch the rest of the 4th season because it's so disturbingly different. I'm about 3 eps in.

Re: Mad Men season 4 question
As far as I know, nothing changed. Maybe things just seem so different to you because it's a new agency and everything/everyone is kind of in a state of flux?
I enjoyed Season 4 quite a bit, for some reasons I don't want to spoil for you. There's still some really, really great acting ahead for you! Don't give up!
It's the swinging 60s now; everything is more modern. Maybe it's that?
ETA: I just saw that you're only three episodes in. I don't remember what happened that early, but keep going; good stuff happens later.

I agree with the others, the new firm is so different from the old Sterling Cooper days and they are embracing the swinging sixties.
Plus, you see big changes in the characters which actually make a lot of sense to me. Peggy and Harry went from being the bottom of the totem pole at SC to being hand picked for a new company and are now high in the ranks. Their confidence levels are much higher and you see that in their interactions with everyone around them. (Who would have ever thought Harry Crane would yell at Don Draper?!) Don's family life has fallen apart and he is on a downward spiral. Betty is trying to fill the role of a politician's wife.
I loved the fourth season, there are still a lot of great things that will happen, so don't give up on it!

Different directors will give you a different "flavor".
Yeah, S4 was a lot different. I think that's what they "meant" to do, being that this was some type of "changing of the guard" and fresher and "less stuffu'" than the old agency they once were a part of
This all makes sense.
It feels less dark/moody and more quirky. And who'da thought Don Draper enjoyed a few slaps during sex? lol
I will say, the last ep of season 3 was my absolute favorite of everything I've watched on the show thus far. It was uplifting and go team!
