Uh, my incision opened.

Tongue Tied The hole is only about 1/8 of an inch right now so I'm waiting until tomorrow to call the doc. I was warned I may get a hernia from the pressure of my uterus on the incision, but no one mentioned it wouldn't stay closed!

Re: Uh, my incision opened.

  • Is there an on-call number for your surgeon, PCM or OB? While waiting is likely what they would say, I'd feel better talking to someone. Yikes! Good luck!

No to all three which I was really surprised by. I don't want to use a trip to the ER so I'll just call first thing in the morning.

Ugh. Hopefully someone with some medical knowldge will see this. I guess I would wash the area and put a loose dressing over it, to ensure it stays clean.

This. Especially if it is oozing or something of the like, you do not want it to stick to your clothes or underwear because when you try to remove the item of clothing you'll rip it open more. If you have some gauze put that over it. I'm so sorry this is happening L.

  • If you have no one to call, I'd try covering it with something sterile like a gauze pad of some sort and taping it. Anything to keep infection or germs out. Maybe even use some steri-strips to hold it together and keep it from further opening anymore. Also even though its open because of your belly expanding, try to limit any movements for the night that would further open it to. Hope that helps! Sorry to hear this is happening. Def call your doc in the morning though!

  • It's not oozing, but I will put something over it now. I didn't even think of that. Thanks ladies.

  • Eww, eww, eww!  I'm flapping my hands like an idiot over here.  (Clearly no one should ever rely on me during a medical emergency.)

I also suggestion putting a loose dressing over it and hopefully the doctor can do something first thing in the morning for you.

  • Keep it dry and covered tonight and keep moving to small controlled  movements. Some antibotic omintment will also help.  (this will help keep it clean)

If you have gauze pack it a tad then cover it and call your doc in the morning. All they will do is prob put steri strips on it.  They might just even leave it as it is.

  • yikes!! good luck!

Haha! I wasn't going to title the post that way but I figured it would be nice to let people know what they were getting ready to click.

  • Did the scab fall off and that's why it's now open? My dr and nurse didn't forwarn me about the cycle of healing, scabbing, losin scab and repeat. The only incision that didn't open for me was the one up at the top near my ribs. The one to the right of my stomach had a discharge at one point but I ended up being alright. I used a guaze pad and lightly taped it to my body until it developed another scab, etc.

The scab fell off almost two weeks ago and it was closed then. In the last few days it has gone from barely noticeable to the size of the triangle part of a pen. I think the inside is going to open soon because it has really been hurting, but I can't see inside my belly button anymore to know if maybe it already is. My incisions are at my belly button (the open one), right below my bra line in the middle, midway through my ribs about 2 inches lower than bra line and two inches lower on the side.

  • LOL at KC!

    Hope it's all fine tomorrow!

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

The one the opened up for me and took a long time to heal was the one a few inches to the right of my belly button. Not the one on my actual belly button. I'd still call and see what they say. If you are concerned about infection a good way to keep an eye on the redness spreading is use a pen or sharpie and put a line where the redness stops. That way you can see if it's getting better or worse.

I hope that all is well and what you are experiencing is typical of someone who is pregnant and has that surgery. And, then of course, I hope you heal as quickly as possible! It seems to take quite a while to recover from it.

  • Like I said earlier if you have gauze take a litte bit and roll it and pack it a little. Dab some antibotic ontiment on it and keep it clean and call the doc in the morning.  Mine did the same thing and he just pulled it together and put a steri strip on.  To this day it still causes problems (it itches like crazy and its been almost 2 years and still get stinging pains sometimes).
  • Yikes!  My belly button incision took the longest to heal.  I swear the stitches took 2 months to fully dissolve.  I hope you can  get it looked at!
