Looking for info on Fort Leonard Wood

Which airport would be the best to fly into for graduation? I plan to rent a car but I just don't know where I should fly into. I see there is a smaller airport TBN. I will be flying out of Philadelphia. Thanks!

Re: Looking for info on Fort Leonard Wood

  • St Louis is the closest major airport.  I think the drive from the airport is 2 hours.  I don't really remember though.  I made the trip 3 times on a bus and once in a car after I graduated.  I passed out durring that last ride.  Have fun!!

  • Like TX said STL is the closet major airport. You are correct that TBN is only a few miles from the Fort, but it is teeny tiny. You could also look into Columbia Regional or Springfield-Branson National.

  • When we lived at FLW, I preferred to fly in/out of the Springfield/Branson airport.  It's only serviced by regional airlines (ie: American Eagle, Delta Connection, United Express - so the major airlines regional partners, basically).  I travel moderately often for work, and the Springfield airport was just so much less of a headache than St. Louis.  Yes, it's a small airport, but it's only about 1 or 1.5 hours from the base, and I've never seen lines back up or get long there for check-in.  The airport is convenient to I-44, too, so there is less traffic and few worries about rush-hour or flight timing, as well.

The airport also has free wi-fi in the departures area.  I liked that.  :)
