Photographers - A Question

What file format do you shoot in?

Re: Photographers - A Question

  • JPG - for the prints that I do, it is a high enough quality. I've used TIFF before and the amount of time that it takes to process, makes it not worth it for me. I also play around with the manual settings quite a bit so I want to be able to adjust quickly and have the ability to hold more files on my cards.

  • Which jpg do you use? Large Fine, Large Normal?

  • I shoot in RAW and Manual

  • Large Normal, I don't recognize a difference in the quality.

What size card do you use? I shot RAW over the weekend and filled up the card in no time.

  • I use 8GB cards..I can usually get anywhere from 400-500 pics on a card.

I go against the generally accepted train of thought when it comes to cards. I have a 32GB card in each camera and generally don't have to remove the cards until after all of the formalities are done (and even then I'm just switching the card out of my less used body and in to my more used body and visa versa). I haven't had to use any of the six 8GB cards I have as back ups yet this season, but I always have them on my belt for when I need them. Most of the time, 'togs will tell you to keep the card size small just in case you lose or corrupt a card. You just have to be really aware of how many shots you have left. My first season I wasn't that aware and wound up changing cards when it wasn't that awesome a time. So I went to 32GB. I always make up my camera is off before I remove them and I always eject the card from my 'puter before removing them. I also reformat every card each time it goes out for a session. For me, I know I'm taking a risk, but it's a risk I'm comfortable with whereas switching cards because I got too caught up in the moment to remember to do it at a better time. I'd rather focus on the moment than use some brain power to remember to check my counts.
