Aw man, I start school in a week. I was going to make the drive to my classroom today, but I didn't really have anything to do there at this point, and driving 55 minutes to a place with nothing to do there doesn't make sense to me. So, today I'm bumming around getting some supplies and posters. Then, I'm typing up some stuff at home so I can go tomorrow and Wednesday to make copies and decorate the room.
Boooo... why does summer go by so fast? I'm actually really looking forward to teaching again, it's just the drive that has me bummed out. BUT in my new car, it should be a better drive! Nearly 45 mpg if I turn on the eco button!? Yes please! That means I'll make it to school on, like, 1.25 gallons instead of 2.5 like last year!
Any other teachers out there start back up soon?
Re: Farewell summer... *sad face*
Yep. Students come back to campus next week. We have a faculty meeting next Friday and then classes start on the 29th. Today I have a meeting with another professor to plan a professional development session for the rest of the faculty. Tomorrow I am going into my office all day to get my fall syllabi done and then we have a department picnic at night.
I feel the same way about driving. I drive 2 hours each way. I really enjoy my time off not just because I am not working but because I don't have to drive.
Organizing a classroom was my favorite part of teaching middle school. I LOVED doing bulletin boards, etc. Teaching at a university just isn't the same.
Have fun driving in your new car!!
What a bummer.
I start back to law school on Wed. Ugh! I have been reading like crazy. Life has been so leisurely. Now its going to be crazy. No break until December and then I'll have to really prepare for Lawson. I will say that being in school will make the time go by super fast. So that is exciting!
Good luck back at school to all the teachers/professors and students!
Our teacher workweek is in two weeks. The students come back the day after Labor Day.
This part of summer always feels bittersweet to me. I'm looking forward to getting back into my classroom and getting everything all set up. I absolutely LOVE the way my classroom looks before it is touched by small hands. :-) I'm also looking forward to meeting my new students and being in a room with kids again...but I know that feeling won't last long. ;-)
A fellow team mate and friend of mine said it best when she posted this on Facebook...Summer. It's a 3-month weekend. June is Friday- can't wait for it to start. July is Saturday- no worries. August is Sunday- you start to fret about what is coming up. :-) Enjoy the rest of what's left of your summer my fellow teacher August Nesties!
Two hours each way!? Wow! That's a lot of driving! I thought my drive was long. Dang, you must really love your job to drive that every day. You are a stronger woman than I.
I wouldn't say I am a stronger woman...just one who can't find a job closer to home. I am actively searching for something else, but I have my PhD in middle childhood education with a focus on literacy. Needless to say that positions in that area are hard to come by. When I was job searching after I graduated I was offered jobs in Washington state, Memphis, and NE Pennsylvania. This was the only position in my state open. So...I took it.
I look forward to the day when I have a commute less than an hour!
The things we do for a teaching job these days. Good luck finding something closer!
