Clicky poll, who picked out your ring?
I really need to get my wedding ring re-sized b/c I haven't been able to wear it since I got PG. So, as I'm sitting here thinking about getting it re-sized I started thinking about the first time I got the ring. DH was terrified that I wouldn't like it (I'm a bit picky about my jewelry), so he had me pick my own ring.[Poll]
Re: Clicky poll, who picked out your ring?
It's actually kind of a funny story. He didn't want my input AT ALL. I LOVE my ring, especially my double-banded ring guard, but the engagement ring isn't something I would have picked. After we were engaged for a time, one of my good friends got engaged and her ring was EXACTLY what I would have wanted. He saw it and said, "Now that ring is just heinous. Too much. I don't like it." lol I asked him why he picked the ring he did for me and he said, "It's just your style. It reminded me of you... Simple. Plain." LOL
I was like, "Future husband of mine....... Please choose my key descriptors a bit more carefully next time." He was trying to say the ring was classic or timeless and that's what he came up with. bahaha
Men.
I was at a jewelry store with MIL and her friend so the friend could get some turquoise appraised. There was a lovely ring in the cabinet, and just for kicks, MIL had me try it on. It fit perfectly as it was, and it was exactly what I would have wanted in an engagement ring--unique, not a diamond, simple, but quirky.
I told H about it that evening, and how pretty it was (and cheap lol) and he went and bought it the next day, it would appear, and he held onto it for a whole year before proposing. I was quite surprised when he opened the box and it was that same ring. It was a surprisingly romantic gesture, given that romance isn't something we do well!
How thoughtful--I bet you were surprised!
H and I went to look at a few stores for engagement rings, but ultimately I let him pick what he wanted. He has amazing taste in jewelry, so I was very pleased with what he picked.

It was really thoughtful, especially for him. He hid it in his mother's sock drawer at her house so I wouldn't find it lol.
I want to hear more about this!!!
Love this! I have a garnet and diamond ring I wear on my right hand. It is actually what I originally picked out for my engagement ring but DH thought that a nondiamond engagement ring would make him look "cheap." ((rolling eyes)) We picked out a diamond ring and then he secretly bought the garnet ring and kept it in the jeweler's safe and gave it to me when he graduated law school. I swear to God I have the WORST luck when I don't wear it.
I would like a sapphire as well. And an emerald....I will take one of each, please.
Yep. We paid for our wedding ourselves, so we didn't have a ton of money for rings. H bought me a nice engagement ring, but let's face it, the stone was really small. H's aunt and uncle own a jewelry store in NH that's been in their family for years, so that's where we got our rings. When we were there for vacation in July, H had me give them my ring "to have it cleaned" one day, and when I got it back, the stone was 1/4 carat bigger! I obviously loved it to begin with, but the extra sparkle is nice.
Man, if I were you, I would suggest a vacation to NH once a year for the rest of your life LOL. Congrats - surprises like that are so much fun!
That's so sweet! I'd love a surprise like that!
H picked out my ring mostly by himself. He asked my sister what he thought of the ring he'd chosen, but that was about it. I told him that I wanted a square cut, and that was the only thing I was "picky" about. I was quite surprised when he proposed with this 1.25 carat, three-stone ring...he nailed it perfectly.
He keeps saying my e-ring will go to JJ when he's ready to propose [in like, 50 years]. I love the ring too much to give it up though, even if I get an upgrade out of it.
