*Becca*/my half marathon

The half was amazing!!! I love them! Lol.  It was my 2nd and went much better than last year.  I think a lot of it was my training for the full, but also just mentally stronger.  I didn't have to walk besides some water stops and last year I think I walked close to 0.75mile in the last 3 miles alone.  Also, lLast year prior to the half the farthest I ran was 9miles, so miles 9-13.1 I kept telling myself: 'ohmygosh, you've never run this far, you can't do it".

I ran 2:08; so that's a 7 minute per from 2:15 in 2010.  Although it's not under 2hrs, it's still a great improvement!  Although now I'm nervous for the full!! Eeek.

Plus, what'd your dad say about the weather? And how'd he run?  I thought the weather was perfect!  It was about 65F and pretty cloudy.  At miles 4 and 8 (for me), it sprinkled, but it was so light, it was the perfect amount and just felt refreshing!

Anywho, just wanted to report back to you :O)

Re: *Becca*/my half marathon

  • YAY!!! congrats!!!

I may have to put this one on my bucket list. How was the course? Any crazy hills?

That's GREAT that the weather held out, that does sound so perfect and ideal.

And a 7 minute PR is nothing to be bummed about!!! congrats!!!!! you may be able to break the 2 hr mark next time :)

Haven't talked to my dad yet, he texted me that he came in at 2:15 and was still standing :)

  • Nope, that's only nice thing about Chicago, literally no hills.  There were maybe 2 or 3 small inclined areas (like one was a road ramp to get on/off an interstate-type exit).  They changed the course from last year due to road construction, but I liked it much better.

Definitely consider it! It's a fun race! I already looked into signing up for next year...except I'm nervous about the date.  It says TBD, Summer 2012 but there's also a note saying signup will end June 17, 2012 or something...this year's sign up ended a week before the race, which, if true for 2012, that'd put the race being at the end of June (==hot hot!). I hope I'm just over-anixious and it will be mid-August again!

Aw! That's awesome for your dad! Yay Becca's dad!  Did I tell you my dad was running it too?  He came in at 2:23, so 10.99min miles, he was SO pumped to be "under" 11min miles.  His goal (it was his first half) was to beat 2:30/2:40.

  • hmm flat and fast is good for sure. Cleveland was that way too - if you're even in ohio I highly recommend that one, they have a half and a full.

Yay for the dads!!! They both did great (as did you)!

That's so cool that he hit his goal at his first half!!!

I, on the other hand will be psyched if I can get my half in october under 2:50 since its crazy hilly and I let my mental game mess up my pace too much (running is like 95% mental for me, I swear). My dad has run all the halfs with me, so I'm glad he got to do one on his own and run it at his real speed, hahaha.
